i can buy a gps piolot 3 for 2 grand, is it good now that it is discontinued? what is affordable for use on a trike?

If you get all the cables, the mapsource software etc I would say yes. It is a good, effective, reliable basic aviation GPS. If you want more sophistication than that then you have to look at the 196 or up.

I bought my first GPS 3 pilot back in 1997, used it until about 2002 and then it was "nationalised" a great GPS with everything you will ever need. However they have a 10 year back up battery which may need replacing and I have seen them go pop..then all the data is lost. It is a spot welded cell on to a small nickel strip inside the cover. Not difficult to replace but has to be done correctly. You can jack up the software off the Garmin website..go for it at R2 k

Jislaaik. Morph shes to be a beaut! It has lotsa parts but i see that your thoughts are just a preview of whats to come...and to ZULU1 thanks i am going to have a final look at the pilot 3 2moro.
