Hey Gert
Your "Grootfontein" is our "Goedeverwacht" field check out http://www.itecape.com/gas for Co-ords
The "landing strip" indicated on your chart is actually Grootfontien, being the one closer to FAFK, positioned 1.5nm NE of Goedverwacht and close to the D/ville / Klipheuwel road - Its more exposed with 3 midsize hangers on the western side of the runway (looks very narrow from the air, but they run a 210 and a baron outa that strip
I flew over WV this morning around 8:00 but not a sign of you guys ?
so i just bombed around trhe area and went for Coffee at FAFK
Regarding FAR45, etc:- my Jeppesen map tells me:
FAR45A - FL195/1500AGL
FAD46 - 1500AGL/GND - North of Grootbrakrivier
FAR36 - 2000AGL/GND (Koeberg)
FAP38 - 200AGL/GND West of Limietberge
FAR42 - 1500AGL/MSL Seeward side / Dassen island
FAP35 - 500AGL /GND over West Coast National park which should be 1500AGL/GND
FAD200N - 4000/GND (GFA Delta200 North)
FAD200S - 2000/GND (GFA Delta200 South)
FAD159 - 1000AGL/GND over Wemmershoehberge
No mention anywhere of "ALT"
Hope this helps - seems more consistent than the other maps
Bestwould be to call up Langebaanweg AFB and ask to speak to Gerhard Nel (he does all our RT lectures /examinations in these parts too)
Cheers

Gert, the Spesbona waypoint you inherited from me. I knew there were 2 airfields in the area and marked Goedverwacht when I flew over it. I couldn't remember whether the other airfield was to the east or west nor could I remember the name so I used the farm name " Spesbona". Delete this waypoint. In the meantime I have got the waypoints for the two airfields
Goedverwacht S33 46.314 E18 41.481
Grootfontein S33 46.323 E18 42.165
These I got by flying over and landing at the airfield. The Grootfontein location as found in "Microlight Airfields in South Africa edition 2 by Jan and Elzabe Coetzee, is wrong and gives a field about 1.5 miles north at S33 45.000 E18 42.000. Also the location of Morning Star in this book is also wrong, showing it to be west of the n7 instead of east. Wrong location S33 45.310 E18 32.550, correct location S33 45.517 E18 32.891

Today completely contrasted to yesterday. A miserable day. Not ideal flying weather.

Yup -
Above and behind the aircraft in front of you - you should be above turbulent zone if your nose (flying straight & level) is slightly higher or just "touching" the top of the "tail" of the a/c in front of you.
.. beware of thermal activity pushing turbulance up into your flight path from the the aircraft in front to you. Better yet DONT do it!

Great sunny day in Cape Town. 1.8 hours flying, and a bit of maintenance. Ready for next weekend's VREDENDAL fly-in. Anybody else going? Message me. Who's been before? What route to take? Avoiding the FAR45?
