The 100Hp Hirth is much the same weight as a 582, around 65kg total. There was one advertised on Avcom some time ago, will see if I can find it if you are interested.

Guys it seems as if there might be some hope for the VW again. Seems like it might be only the Go-tech fuel management that is getting confused and flood after a while.

BTW the tail have a 6kg block of lead attached, so maybe the motor do not need to be so heavy after all if I need to replace it with a 582.

Agent maybe also able to get hold of a 914 for me. I just wane try the cheaper solutions first.

would it not have been better to have mounted the volla 1 inch closer to the firewall?

You do have a claim. The word Voetstoots does not mean you can get ripped off It only means that you buy what you see and that the seller has pointed out the defects to you and that you accept that. It does not mean that he can shut up and sell you a defective product and hide the defects from you. So Bennie if I was you I would go see a lawyer asap.

Ok now I realize I bought a project not a plane to fly.

1x throttle body worn out and stuffed. Can not set the Go-Tec fuel injection before it is repaired. Also needed the air intake to be re sized to that of a 2.3 VW motor instead of the 19 00 cc VW motor it came from. R1800.00 and on its way back from JHB. :?

In the mean time we Replaced the coil with an Bosh, cleaned and serviced fuel injectors they were way out of limits.

Re done upholstery with leather, cut and install bottom door windows and installed EGT and CGT.

Awaiting anxiously for the return of the throttle body so we can assess the Go-Tec system and the Lambda sensor.

Started DSR today the idling is still a bit high but I'm starting to feel a bit more confident with it.

On the end of the day it was the valve clearance that was set to tight and caused the compression to be far to low. After resetting it was back between 800 and 850.

We are thinking of replacing the throttle body with a VW Polo's to try and manage the air intake better so the idling can come down from 1800 rpm to about 800 to 1000 rpm without adjusting the timing again.

Tailspin, I have an airfilterbox with inlet for carbheat that you are welcome to take. I'll take some pics and email them to you. Uses a standard golf airfilter

We started her this morning and I have never herd such a nice sound. I better check the oil level as well coz there is not a drop of oil in sight. Going for final adjustments and then for a few cosmetic changes. THEN IT IS FLY TIME.....
