Rotax 582

Postby redbaron » Mon May 28, 2007 1:02 pm

Hi there.
I am thinking of buying a Streak Shadow.
It has a Rotax 582 in it. I have heard that certain "year models" or so have some problem with tha crank shaft or something that results in bas reliability.
How does one tell if the engine your plane has in is a good one or a bad one?

The silver top engines are the previous version. You should be looking at the Blue Top (i.e. the actual head is blue in colour)

Why, what's wrong with a Mod 90 Silvertop other than it may have high hours on it?

In my opinion, it's absolutely rubbish that certain models have problems with the crankshaft. The Mod 90 and Mod 99 have exactly the same cranks, casings, bearings, seals, conrods, etc.
Airspeed, altitude, or brains....you always need at least two

What are considered to be high hours? And what can one expect to spend on an overhaul?
