Heros topic removed.

Postby Bennie Vorster » Tue May 08, 2007 9:12 am

Is it not sad that we sometimes think that if we ignore something or cry DELEAT, we feel more comfortable about what we are busy doing?

So fast we all are to say we realty understand the consequences and is sure that we are making an informed decision in connection with the reality of our sport's pros and cons until we see the result of a moment of adrenalin can cause us in a picture as if we are looking in a mirror.

Never did I say that the pick's I posted were accidents caused by stupidity or pilot error. Actually the picks could be an accident storey that every one of us could be writing ourselves if we do not obey to the training we underwent or might go insane for a moment of adrenalin rush.

In the beginning of my flying career I had the same problem when people cried PILOT ERROR , then I use to the question, but what about the human factor like forgetfulness, been in a hurry even over looking something ???? Well maybe pilot error is defined as an error on the pilots behalf. Whether INTENTUALLY or UNINTENTIOLY.

The picture I first posted was even more grewsome than half of you have ever seen and it was a shocker, for me removing it from the forum or you asking for it to be removed from the topics will not make the reality disappear. I still think the topic should have stayed to be an reminder of what can happen IF YOU DO NOT THINK TWICE OR LISTENING TO YOUR GUT FEELING BEFORE GETTING IN YOUR PLANE.

Who know, maybe I'll be next in line to have my own picture posted on this topic, but then it will not be coz of an uninformed decision I had made to fly or about or not thinking twice about the consequences for my actions. O yes and I will not sue afterwards some one have stick my bleeding face to this topic after I'm gone.

I did not delete the topic, but I did think about it. The pics were a bit gory and possibly not what you want to see as an aspirant aviator. Not saying it not a good idea to use shock tactic to ensure vigilance, but they were a bit graphic IMHO....

I did not delete it either nor see the post but I would have.

I understand what you are trying to achieve but this is an open forum with the possibility of children browsing with their parents etc and we don't need graphic pics of accidents. We all know that accidents can cause death and death is grusome. We don't need pics to remind us

Additionally the last thing I need my softness to see is grusome pics to really turn her off flying for good.

Your intention was positive mate :D

As Demon says you are a very valued member of this forum and I love reading your posts, did not see the pics - Maybe just as well. No harm done

This for me is parramount. Years of goodwill can be broken down in an instant. My mate was very badly (almost fatally) injured in a trike accident (lost limbs and was critical in ICU for months). He was a good pilot and flew for many years without incident. While he was flying no one ever mentioned it and it was not seen as risky. Now in the whole area (a vast farming community in Rural SA) anything that flies is a death trap because of 1 photogrqaph of his bleading brused body on the front page of the local news rag taken on cel by (now expert) eye witness. Even people who have never even seen a microlight now decree that everyone who flies has a deathwish and every plane is unsafe. (Not only micro's). Yet those same people drive pissed every weekend without giving it a second thought. Not fair, but fact...

Point I am trying to make is that most aviators are aware of the risks and manage those as best they can, but shock tactics do more harm than good due to the lack of understanding of the general public. Sensationalism sells papers and airtime, but does not necissarily promote safe flying IMHO. I have had to work hard on Mommy for 2 year since Martha's demise to resurrect my microlight flying aspirations. Even now every time a chopper goes down I get the "unacceptable risk" lecture....

Accidents happen, but without posting all the facts of the incident the putures tell only 1 side of the story. I use the following example....

Pic of a bashed up plane and pilot with no stroy... Flying is deadly dangerous....
Story could however have described how the pilot remianed in plane to steer it away from crowds rather than eject and kill many innocent people.

In first scenario he is risking his life for fun (possibly considered Idiot or has deathwish).....
In second (full stroy) he risks his life to save others? Hero?

PS
Above incident acctually hapened at airshow in SA some time back and couple papers went sensational route rather than fact...

PPS

I agree with what you were trying to do and know the feeling. When I was at Varsity on Rag Committee, we got a bashed car (of student who had had drinking and driving accident) put on a pole at the entrance to the varcity during Rag week (when there are always plenty drinking and driving accidents). We were forced to remove it by court order  ....

Don't go anywhere I look forward to your posts

Although your intentions were positive take a look at what happened with the Junkie's thread. You were opening yourself up to some real nasty retaliations. As it is like morph said if my softness saw that thread she would take it to such an extent i will also then suffer from A.I.D.S. (Aviation Induced Divorce Syndrome). We all know the dangers but we do not need it amplified on open forum, thats just asking for trouble.

Rather open a thread with a pic of the dude smiling and with his friends as remembrance of good times than have a reminder of the pain of loss.

Cancer has taken big chunks outa my life but i am not going to stick up pictures of the person laying in a hospital bed with pipes and shit hanging outa him. Just not on.

the risks are minimal but the lose is max the pics are not the way to do it but we are talking about it so a bit of chicken and egg story........ I knoww for myself that i don't like to think of what can happen every time I put my ass in to the seat ,but I can give you guys a good tip after flight test I think is more important than pre flight because the rush is gone and make a habit of looking at your friends plane because I have looked at a problem 20 times and missed it every time and some one else walks up and they will point it out on first glance (If any body say it has not happend to them yet they are talking kak or nobody has looked at his plane but him.....and this is not pointed at anybody) and in life you get two people ......if theres a crash one person will run to the crash and the other person takes his or her camera out .......thats just life ( that why I don't have a camera stops me from being the one last mention

just be safe one can still have fun (one can have fun with nobody watching)

Interesting thread guys.

The only barrier between me and flying a trike is my better half. She is convinced that I will kill myself and leave her and the kids to fend for themselves. If she had seen the pics my crusade would have ended. I made some serious headway by showing her some awesome pics of my flight with Demon on Friday, she was even impressed with the GT450 as a machine.

My point is that I do not think these shock tactics work. We all live with a degree of risk and responsible pilots accept the risk and manage it accordingly. Yes, anybody can have a fatal accident, but then again you can have a fatal accident driving homr from the airfied. We would not want the pictures of that plastered over the net. Instead we should be talking about the causes of these accidents to learn from them.

Hi,

I beg to differ, If I saw those pictures I would have been discusted, I am almost done with my license(one hour to go), and I do not need to see stuff like this on a forum like this, I promote this forum to all MPL's I meet.
I am not one to get involved in any conflict at all, but it makes me so upset cross  when topics like this arise.

Let's enjoy it and have fun, yes always be aware of the dangours out there.

Piece to all
