MPL Renewal - forms and req.

Postby kb » Sat Feb 03, 2007 9:19 am

My MPL expires on valentines day ( what a lovely present from CAA) and I obviously need to renew it.
does anyone have a clue as to which form to use? I have been onto the CAA site, and can only find the form for application of a MPL, and not a renewal form.
Secondly, I believe that I do not need to do a flight test as I have flown enough hours in the past year / 2 years, whatever the ruling. can anyone clarify this. maybe if someone has done it recently, if you could post what was required etc etc. thanks in advance.

Hey KB

According to CAA you need 3 Solo hours in the last 12months as per your log book. Fill in the form, pay your money and sit and wait the rest of the day.

THAT IS IT

Are you sure Tailspin.

My understanding is you have to have those hours and you have to have a valid flight medical and you have to do a checkride. The Instructor has to sign and stamp the form, copies of you valid medical, plus your logbook plus this form must be send to CAA.

I had a bit of confusion in that i had started my 3Axis conversion and all they saw was the 7.5 hours on 3 axis and not the trike hours, after much explaining and showing them the correct hours that is what the lady said. As long as you have a valid medical etc and you have at least 3 hours as PIC Solo on type they accept and renew your license. I did a check ride and all that you said morph cos i thought i did not have enough hours but that is what the lady said.

I was kinda surprised and i allways thought it was about 10 hours that is why i stuck in my nut like that. I could be wrong but that is what she told me.

KB give them a call and make sure. I phone and get names and make tripple sure now before i do anything with the CAA

No form available on caa.co.za from what I can see. I sent them an email asking what the correct steps are. I presume the first step is to wait for a reply......

I have spoken to my instructor and to CAA

1. you must have 3 hours or more solo over the last 12 months, otherwise you will need a check ride
2. You must have a valid medical
3. Fill in form 61-01-08 application for renewal of Flight Crew Member Licence.
4. Summarise your last 12 months flying
5.Sign the last section, nothing else is needed on the form unless you have to do a checkride then the instructor needs to sign it

6. Copy last 12 months of your logbook and it is preferable to get the copies certified
7. Copy Flight medical
8. Cost R480
9 Send to, go to CAA

 :?: 3 hours is a joke and pretty dangerous as well if you ask me

I think PPL is about 8 hrs, Imagine hiring your R500k + aerie out to someone that only does 8 hrs a year

But I guess we won't complain, the more simple the better and I guess if you look at the states you don't even need a license

4. Summarise your last 12 months flying
I am in the process of renewing, and know that if the summary is not to CAA's liking they do not renew, starting a to&fro'ing of documentation.

Anyone know the EXACT way in which the summary should be done.

:) http://www.zu-dve.com is not good enough for them

I understood you can just print it from easyplan, someone said once that they accept that, not sure. I keep mine there and once a few months and every end of year transfer the data to my pen and paper logbook.

Just did my flight med last month - doc made booboo and issued it for 2years instead of 5! Expired in August last year. License due for renewal on 20/05/07

Maybe it was not a booboo  , maybe you have some unpronouncable 'itis that he is too embarrased or scared to tell you about. Tell me, was he wearing a mask, or was he sitting in a hermetically sealled bubble when you did your medical?

Coleen's the one. She knows everything.

I was sent on a wild CAA goose chase before contacting her. She does the stuff everyday and probably knows more than they do.

(Certainly more than the instructor/ bozos who sent me off with my forms.)

Pay her dues and get it 2 days later.

The correct way to summarize a logbook is in AIC 30.3.
You should find this AIC at your local friendly flying school, or otherwise online on the CAA website.
