ADVICE NEEDED

Postby MidlifeCrisis » Mon Mar 19, 2007 2:24 pm

I am currently a trike pilot and hanger at vintervogel, I have been researching fixed wing micolites and need some advice and direction, two of the planes I have short listed are the Foxbat 22 and the Sabre jk05 both are quite close on cost and performance , one is composite the other aluminium, please can someone give some input.

Hi

Just remember your 260kg's empty and 450kg's MAUW if you want to stay MPL, and maybe look at the Stork as well as the Skyranger

Sure what do you want to do with it and how much do you want to spend

Cruising - Do you want to do lots of cruising or just the normal cabbage patch stuff
Comfort (taking size and weight into consideration)
Range
speed
Cost
High wing or Low wing

The two you mentioned are magnificent planes at the upper scale in terms of cost. In this range you can also look at the CT, the Ikarus (but I'm not sure if I want a plane named after someone who crashed and died after flying too close to the sun ) or the Sting

A little lower in the price range is the Jora

Then you get the lekker self builds like the Bush Baby, the Skyranger both lap and pyp and Savannah and Ravin both all aluminium

Then you can get Challengers etc etc.

What motor do you want to use? 582 or 912?

Take me for a beer sometime and we can talk about this for hours   8)

Havent flown the Foxbat but have flown the Sabre JK05 with Dennis Southby. That is one beautiful plane and handles very very well.

Sabre Jk 05

Postby ZULU1 » Mon Mar 19, 2007 6:42 pm

I flew the Jk 05 with Bumpy from Mozambique, what an awesome piece of kit, he did Ballito to Komatipoort in under 3 hrs on about 40 litres of juice. And my mate Kevin Fuller has got the Aeroprakt, just as awesome.

Dont envy you your decision.

Cheers Paul

Also look at the Ikarus C42 as the wings can fold and you can trailer.
Just all that more versitile at the same cost.
They build them in Hermanus and we are due to collect one soon just waiting for the balistic shute.
My destructor has flown allmost all ultralights BUT that was the finest he told me after the conversion.
