er, dis ekke... met my twee maitjies...
Yeah, we are back again (Jay, Steve and Dave), now as the MISASA Formation Display team. We have been practicing a lot and now have a faster, tighter display with more manoeuvers.
The aim is to display at as many airshows as possible so that we can improve the image of trikes in the public eye. After both of the shows that we have performed at we have had members of the public come to us to tell us that they did not realise that trikes could do these things- or even display at airshows...
They also mention that, whilst the jets, Albatrosses, etc. look great, who can afford them? But a trike seems reachable...
So far I know personally of one person who decided to fly weight shifts as a result of our display; it seems that there may be others as well.
I thought that this was a great PRO exercise and decided to ask MISASA for thier blessing, which we now have. We will get a very small sponsorship from them in the form of payment for badges, T-shirt and/or flying suits/ overalls that identify us as the MISASA Formation display team.
The idea is that anyone can represent MISASA in this manner if they get a team together and can display in a manner that puts us all in a good light. If there are any other interested pilots who want to do something like this then feel free to contact me.
It may seem slightly nepotic (is that a word!?) that the MISASA Committee has provided my team with this 'sponsorship' since I am the MISASA PRO, however, the sponsorship is very small and is really only there to carry the MISASA name. If anyone puts together a better team they are entitled to 'take the flag', and, if there are teams in other provinces who wish to represent MISASA in a formation display team then we could have more than one team.
Addtionally, as the MISASA PRO I feel that doing this actually does promote our sport, which is exactly what I am supposed to do! :D
If you are going to try this our please contact me; we have practiced a LOT and have learnt a lot. All three of us are attending the EAA Formation Course currently being presented, which apparantly will form part of a Formation Rating, and we have jumped through the hoops to get our display ratings for the airshows, so I can help you with getting all of this.
Lastly, for anyone interested, we will be displaying at theVereeniging Air Carnival this Saturday (9th Sep) at around 11am, and also at the Mafikeng Airshow on the 7th of October.
A lone impulse of delight drove to this tumult in the skies...
