Authority to Fly – no longer for 12 months

Postby John Young » Thu Aug 17, 2006 12:20 pm

Being too proactive didn’t help me.

My Authority to Fly was due to expire 18 August 2006. To ensure enough time for all [including CAA], I had my Annual Inspection done on 20 July 2006.

My new Authority to Fly expires 20 July 2007. It is no longer based on the anniversary of the previous Authority to Fly, but on the date of the Annual Inspection.

So effectively, you will advance your Authority to Fly expiry date by one month per calendar year.

Yeah, you almost have to let it expire, then apply for the next and not fly if it lapses until the new one comes through. [0*

Nay Demon.

Collette van Zyl informed me that they [CAA] have “just changed” from the anniversary date of the Authority to Fly, to the date of the Annual Inspection.

By implication, “just changed” may mean 3 or 6 months ago ….

However, if I have been misinformed – then huge apologies to all concerned.

If any change it is relatively minor.

In the regs it has always stated that your last inspection must have been within the 365 days before your flight.

So if you inspect early, your aerie cannot fly (or be airworthy) more than 365 days later.

Lesson learnt

Lesson learnt !!

However, if you don’t hanger next door to the CAA, you will effectively acquire 11 Authority’s to Fly through every 10 year cycle [pro-rata].

We Piesang Boere are “disadvantaged” [now, just where did I hear that before…?]

Thanks for input & feedback.

That's if you can get CAA to actually do the paper work and issue one.....One of my aircraft had the annual done 6 weeks ago, all paper work submitted and we are still waiting.......all CAA says is "we are beeezy with it"
