Microlight Time Trial Races @ PARYS

Postby alanmack » Thu Jun 26, 2014 3:52 pm

The e-mail below from RAASA sets it all out. If you are keen please call Marius Nel on 0834196613

Dear Alan and Donald

The Parys Time trial event scheduled for 19 July has been planned to accommodate microlighters!

Scully Levin, the creator and promoter of the time trail event, under the auspices of SAPFA rules, has provided a special spot for Microlight participation.
This means a logger is fitted to the aerie, flown twice or three times around a 1.8NM course marked by pylons, and the data downloaded to establish the speed of the aerie.

Scully and I chatted about the unique requirements of microlight pilots and the sensitivity to weather.
This means that the normal briefing will take place early or will be done differently to allow maximum use of the early crisp air.

I guess what is required is for MISASA or the microlighters to have a single coordinator to arrange whatever is required, as Scully’s time is limited with his flying big aeries.

If it’s all the same with you, I will assist with this. With Scully’s inputs, I will distribute the rules, mainly on the minimum heights, and number of kites in the circuit at any time (normally two or three, depending on anticipated speed being similar).
How to get a logger, how to fit it, how to and when to take off, how to plan the landing upon completion of the laps etc.
This will help with keeping the briefing short and productive.

NB: “Must be familiar with the course” rule: normally all participants are “flown” around the course the day or week prior to the time trial, but in this case, if the participants are familiar with the lay-out, and the speeds are in the 50 to 60 Kts range, this rule may be waved – subject to briefing and alternate comfort measures.

Any suggestions?
regards
Neil

OK who is in for this. Unfortunately it is the same weekend as African Cub at Numbi. Maybe we can get some trikes together in Parys to go kick some ass.

Wow this sounds interesting -- is there any previous information about past events?

Keen to see how the Microlights perform at this.

Your GT's are Quick chaps...

Barry, you need to work on your turns and sort out the pitch of the prop and polish the fibre glass bits and check the tyre pressures and....

Good going chaps.

We do have MISASA loggers available for the next event :-)
