Hi Stefan its the first time I have seen this aircraft at all. the radial really makes it beautiful. Why arent there more explores with this engine? what is the maintenance cost on it and fuel burn as well as TBO?

The engines are now about the price of a Rotax so they are not cheap. Maintenance is low. You have to do an inspection on the PSRU every 25 hours but it's a simple procedure and is done without removing the prop. Other than that. You check the fuel and put some oil and you go  Being a radial it loves to mark it's territory but it's part of the flying. Fuel burn is 15-16 liters per hour. Lovely aircraft to fly. The engine has a 1000 recommended TBO. I am sure this will be increased soon. This engine is just idling in this airframe.

To replace this one will cost you more than 650K. A bargain. Jump at it.....

Some guys are asking for more info so here goes what I know.
- Cruise at 95-100mph indicated
- fuel burn is 17liter/hr at 100mph indicated - TAS about 110mph
- RPM in the cruise - 3000-3300
- Max rpm - 3700
- recommended take-off rpm is 3600 (prop speed - 2400rpm)
- Gearbox ratio 1,5:1
- current take off rpm is 3400 (too low)
Prop - 76 x 55 - I will recommend cutting the prop back to 74 inch, you will gain approximately 100 rpm/inch you cut and still have the same cruise speed but better take-off and climb.
climb rate is not great currently - 500ft/min at our elevation of 5500ft but it's due to the prop.
Take off run @ 5500ft is about 150m with the prop as it is.

Re: Radial Explorer for sale - PRICE REDUCED

The owner decided to drastically reduce the price. The aircraft is just being flown by me every now and then to keep the juices flowing.

New Price R400 000. Bargain of a lifetime.. (^^)
