new year aviation tradition, do you have one?

Postby thys bas » Sun Jan 01, 2012 11:46 am

What a gorgeous morning it was! vhpy

As usual, I try to be the first traffic out of Wonderboom on the first day of the year. Managed to do it for several years now. I was a bit late today, only opened the hangar doors at 06H30B. Enjoyed a very quiet flight, nobody on the radio. Even the tower was quiet, unmanned today. (The thought crossed my mind that I had Comms Failure   ). Only on the way back could I test the radio when a pilot informed he is on his merry way to Zebula, for breakfast I presume.

Goose was up as well, saw him driving out his plot, waving hands at me, Hallo Goose (^^) Ovias, not flying today, car had family in.

So, any AVCOMMERS with aviation plans for today? Tell us about it.

Hi Thys
Yip I also believe in starting off with an early morning flight ....
Me no drink (doctors orders) ... no hangover issues.
I only got airborne 07H30 from Klipriver.
Wx ok for the first 20 mins or so ... then some not too pleasant turbulence descended
upon me . Not sure what the wx was up to ?
Was very quiet up in JHB SR South.
Cheers

I too had the best of intentions to fly this am. No hangover problems, but my 3 year old son slept with us and refused to let daddy go fly at 5am. I will try again tomorrow am vhpy

Happy new year everyone (!!)

Horace Blok & Laurett (Piper ZS-DXH) and my skattie & I (Cheetah ZU-CXO) hopped into our aeries at around 11h00 this morning and went for a jaunt up the coast. Needless to say, a gusty gutsy 25kts SSW wind picked up and became rather unpleasant towards the mountains. The conditions were not the faint hearted and of course excellent exposure to the conditions we prefer not to fly in. We returned home to challenge the 90degree crosswind on runway 27.

Always fantastic to fly though.... vhpy

Gelukkig het jy die pilot en die brandstoftenk mis geskiet, en ek kon dit veilig maak tot in die hangar!    I heard the noise but did not see the missing parts of the aircraft. The landing was a bit rough on one main plus tail wheel but to taxi was worse

Air Hog, be warned, that moerse gun can shoot all the way to Kroon! So we better phone Goose everytime we fly!!

Thanks Goose, now we know what you do on new years day. Ek is bly jy skiet nie so goed soos M nie!

On Goose's second photo, with him holding the moerse gun, he appears soooooo happy with at least hitting the Cub, that he never saw the blow-back of the moerse gun demolished his house behind him. He was probably deaf from the shot and never heard the building falling appart
