MPL / Trike license

Postby hennies1 » Wed Sep 14, 2011 4:49 pm

Hi

Hoekom is deesdae se lisensie vir mpl en trikes so duur? As jy deeesdae kyk hoeveel 'n trike of mpl vliegtuig tweedehands kan koop is dit belaglik dat jy al amper dieselfde geld betaal vir jou lisensie of dalk duurder as wat jy vir 'n tweedehandse airie betaal.

Voorbeeld: Om 'n trike lisensie deesdae te kry kos jou ongeveer R30 000 plus. Tweedehandse trikes tussen R30 000 en R50 000

Mpl lisensie ongeveer R40 000 - Plus pioneer flightstar Tweedehands R 30 000

Someone decided that in the name of safety the minimum hours had to increase, add some night flying??, extended cross countries and eradicate the part time country instructors who would train around work hours for the love and fun of it.

I trained 25 hours flying in total, used my trike after going solo saving bucks and we got a reduced rate for having 7 guys share ground school lectures on Saturdays.

Everyone qualified within the 25 hours and we're no better or worse than the new guys are.

What is the requirement now for new trike pilots and rates?

We charge R870/hr on the Explorer tailwheel, depending on fuel price. LSA normally costs between R32000 and R40 000 depending on the pilot's ability. One of the big reasons prices are higher is that the weekend warrior instructor has been cut out with all the new part 141, insurance and maintenance requirements. it is expensive keeping your ATO license just to be a weekend warrior. These days you have to do it full time to survive and even then it is very difficult. If a school charges too little you should shy away from it, chances are that proper aircraft maintenance is being overlooked.

Agree with the overheads and requiement for a school to remain current however, most trike training is early mornings and after 16h00 anyway and I'm sure more students would enroll if they can train around working hours and weekends, let alone the instructor who's dormant between 10h00 and 16h00.

Don't discount the weekend warrior instructors. 3 ex instructors here with collective 2 000 hours cut their teeth flying single 503's over the Drakensberg and flying to and from the Upington Bundu Bash fly in let alone competitions in the mid 80's and 90's alongside the top okes of today.

I am not discounting the ability of the instructors, all I am saying is that it is very difficult these days to just do instruction for the love of the sport. We are forced to do it permanently in order to make ends meet. On the other hand it is a good thing because we are now a bit more regulated. To be honest, how many pilot's do you know who are afraid to talk to ATC or do not even know how to fill a flight plan or navigate properly? The point is that it is not only flying ability that defines you as a good pilot, unfortunately not all weekend warriors give enough attention to these (also) important aspects of flying.

I agree with it being an expensive operation and the need to make profit in order to sustain it otherwise you would not in business. Charge what you need to and good luck to you.

I just think that the present structure is too rigid and less accomodating to attract more recreational pilots.

:x

Vlieg instrukteurs sal begin geld maak soos bossies.!!
