I phoned ICASA enquiring whether I need a radio station licence for my hand held and was told that I do.
I asked what the fees were and the lady said that there was a once off payment of R480.00 for the registration of the hand held and R48.00 for the annual licence fee.
They told me I would have to pay the monies via eft as they don't accept cash at their offices. I was also told to bring a certified copy of my ID. On arrival I was told to fill out a few forms and that I can do the eft whilst they process my application.
They also informed me that the licence would be posted to me OR if I paid an extra R100.00 I would recieve it immediately.
Needless to say I payed the extra R100.00 and I was out of there in twenty minutes with licence in hand.

Quick question...

I do not have a plane at the moment but wold like to get a hand held in any case.

How many radios can you have on the license? IE if I get a license now when I buy a handheld, will I have to get a seperate licence for the plane's radio in future?

Regards,

I have it that you require a licence for every station or set.....

If you have a permanent radio fitted to your aircraft, it gets linked to the aircraft registration.

Hi falcon, I loved the "if you pay an extra R100.00 you can get it now" part. Just shows you they have the ability to be able to give an efficient service but would rather screw you for a few more bucks!

Thanks John... looks like its the old "wet van Traansvaal".....Kak en betaal!

They were actually a very helpful and friendly bunch. I have no idea what would justify the extra R100.00 though.

Eventually got the last license on friday. And received a copy of my 2009 license as well. Wonder why?
