electrical help Needed

Postby Sad-Ham » Thu Jun 23, 2011 4:11 pm

Hope there are some electrically minded people out there that can help me with this....

I recently removed the MGL multi function guage (EGT/CHT/WATER etc) and replaced it with a skydat EGT as it was only the EGT function on the old guage I was using and due to failing eyesight in old age I could not read the small MGL display anymore. When I removed the earth and power supply I noticed that there were 3 wires in each hole obviously feeding to other instruments. Between the earth and power was a resistor....

when I came to reconnect everything I somehow managed to misplace the resistor. I reconnected without it but when testing everything I noticed that my water temp now gives incorrect readings... the needle moves up and down and not gradually up to temp like it used to!

Could anyone advise me what ohms such a resistor should be and if this could be the cause of my now faulty water temp guage

thanks

What engine and what was the MGL instrument model you used? MGL uses K type probes and it might be that the other instrument requires J type?
The connector with the resistor is probably the rpm balast resistor.
