Spreader Bar Cables for wing of Windlass Trike

Postby ICEMAN » Fri Mar 03, 2006 7:39 pm

This message is not out to create any rumours such as the one placed by the elusive Mr "bigfoot" in the Accidents Forum. ...... i just need some clarity: -0<

I`m recieved conflicting verbal info from various AP`s within the last month (all very reputable AP`s in the industry) regarding the need to install a dublicate set of puller cables onto the wing spreader bar for my windlass trike (wl144); some AP`s are telling me the plane is grounded until the additional cables are installed and others are telling me its absolute bollocks -xX ........ who do i believe (**) ???

If mods to the wing are needed then surely the manufacturers (Solowings) or the CAA or Misasa would issue a notification (i have recieved a few notifications in the past eg with the saftey cable on the top of the pylon)........ any one have any feedback for me on this issue?......

Who actually swings the big stick on these matters :?: Who do i believe :?:

If there is an official notification / need for saftey/ official purposes then i have no problem with getting it done ASAP as i dont need any F14 wing configurations taking place in midflight....... yet what concerns me time and time again is the lack of continuety wrt standards between various AP`s....... is there an official "Standards Generating Body" or SETA where the general Joe Bloggs, such as myself, can verify what is officially needed :?:

Do i need the extra cables or not???? :?:

Hi ICEMAN

I would not wait for the paper work, I'm too scared.   It cost me R4500.00 to check out, modified and repair my wing.   But I must say that you just feel safer after it had been done. That includes the spreader bar cable mod. I can now take my kids flying and still go sleeping the night before.

Hi Bennie,

Its not that im concerened about the wing parts or wing failure.... i keep a close eye on the bits and pieces and am comfortable with my wing as is ie. original....

I have however started the necessary steps, not because i feel unsafe with the wing, but rather because im unsure what is required.... the parts are not expensive; about R300 give or take a few rands.... labour cost vary between those AP`s who say its needed (up to R750) and those who say it isnt (about R100).....

I want to stay on the right side of the "law".... its just that it seems to vary from person to person....... My biggest issue is the lack of consistency when it comes to these type of issues..... it seems to revolve around individual idea`s of the AP`s.....

So far ive noted that not one AP has responded to my original question (im sure there must be a few on this site)........... are they steering clear of a bun fight between each other!!!....... are there any AP`s on the forum who wish to address the original question on the open forum; is it legally necessary to add additional cables or not :?:
