If I'm not mistaken, it's those little guys in brown uniforms that got taught by Lord Baden-Powell to tie knots, make fires and shelters etc etc...RV4ker wrote: What is a Scout?

Excuse my ignorance

Re: What is a Scout?
There are two in East London and they fly damn well. One with 582 and the other with 503 . Both handle turbulence well and the 582 really neat.
for more info contact Andrew on 0827804280. That 582 of his is used regularly in all conditions and he knows all the facts about those aircraft

Re: What is a Scout?
Did training on a scout and there is still a few flying at Springs! Will break yourself before braking that plane trust me! Simple design and strong! Flies well with both 582 and 503. Had a 503 scout with a topless wing join us on a weekend away a few years ago, it kept up with 3 912 trikes and 2 582 Gemini`s. Never heard him complain once about the crappy WX either!
Good luck

Nothing compares to a windlass. A scout is strong, but heavy. You need to decide what you want to do, and then state them, and ask what trike would suit your needs best.RV4ker wrote:Anyone flying a Scout in Jhb? How does it perform and compare to a windlass for eg?
Oh yes, last thing. Because a windlass doesn't have any shocks, they are normally flown by better pilots...

Re: What is a Scout?
Scout is only marginally more heavier than a normal aluminium frame but orders of magnitude stronger. I tried to look up the weight and cannot find but i did teh exercise before I purchased and the difference was less than the accessories (wheel spats, avionics, etc)Wargames wrote:Nothing compares to a windlass. I find its a comfortable trike for pilot and pax.
Other factors are more to do with the wing than anything else. They usually come with aerotrikes Spirit 15 wing. That is more highveld orientated but has heaps of lift and its a very smooth wing.
I ordered some batton mouldings and springs form Aerotrike and they were ready to be posted next day. I have found that the powder coating has come off in places to reveal a type of galvanizing underneath. I have noted a little surface rust inside the frame but I practically landed in teh sea once. I have sprayed rust inhibitor inside. That is on teh engine bracket, inside teh pylon is still perfect.
