Re: Radial Explorer Project - Da Animal
Left Camera in hangar at FAVB . Will be back there Wed.
PS
I am still trying to recover from the almost 5 hrs on the "foamless seat" and zero sleep from bunking down with the Texas (of SA) Chainsaw massacre'ers. They sawed down 2 equitorial rain forests on Wed night. I got to sleep as I heard the Rambler rev in the driveway outside on Thurs Morning......
All's well that ends well... Was still too stiff to try fly the Animal again on Friday and had time & WX issues to get back to Jhb for Coves site meet and kids social calendar (There is a moerse que of oukes wanting a flip - Some from far afield...) Am back in Jhb for weekend and next week will make a dent on paperwork, try get to grips with the engine and manual Boet made me swot on Thurs before solo flight. When I landed he was jumping up and down I thought I had cocked something up? Seems he was just happy to have Animal back on ground in 1 piece....
Flight back was LOOOOOONG and landing at FAVB in 20+gusting X wind was something I prefer not to do again. Animal almost ended up on Roof . On ground taxi downwind I had to stand on the brakes to keep speed down..... NOT A LOT OF FUN...... Nice memories to have but EISH don't know if I be offering to ferry any other BB's from Moerlandspan in a hurry again....
Below the pics from Kalahari Rat...... They pretty much speak for themselves....
"HELLO DAAR"
Wash windscreen, check the fuel and tyres and fill up the oil
And some more....
Time for a quick flip on Wed night... (Wind was HUGE -99kts in 182RG handicapped in air race at over 150kts... Do the math )
Winding the rubber band nice and tight... (For longer flight time)
Is Olie genoeg....
Luister nou Mooi ou Pel......
Then
Boet's first view from the outside...
Boetless in air for the first time
Followed by plenty low passes... The sound on the ground is awesome when she goes directly overhead...

Re: Radial Explorer Project - Da Animal
I can tell you guys, it is not easy to hand over something like this aircraft to some other outjie who`s never flown it before. She is not a bad girl to go flying in, BUT you have got to pay attention!! Thanks George, for laying my fears to rest. You did OK. Just remember to check for HL before srying to start her next.... Now I have to get rid of the huge oil spill where she marked her territory in my hangar!!

Re: Radial Explorer Project - Da Animal
FAVB, def till January, maybe Feb since I cant get hangarage at the Coves . Flies weekly.
Waiting for "DA BLONDE" to do her thing at CAA to let us fly further than the 60nm. ICASA still dragging feet to issue radio stat license as well.
Some small mods/additions made
Hobbs fitted
Limited liability (fly at own risk ) decals fitted (Thanks MISASA/RAASA)
Scavenge pump fitted
Custom seat padding being made up
Ipod connection being wired in
First aid kit, fire ex, fuel strainer added
Custom cover behind baggage compartment to hold all of above being fabricated...
Total time now approaching 30hrs. Landings are now getting to look (and feel) more like landings rather than driving on potholed roads . Glide aproaches, side slips and 1 wheel landings are in their infancy but comming along. PLAY TIME ALL DA TIME
Some playtime pics. Cell camera so quality is K@K, but you get idea....

Re: Radial Explorer Project - Da Animal
Sorry Oom G. I are moving house for the next 3-4 weeks and I still waiting for "permission" to fly further than 60nm from FAVB. If I can find hangar space near Coves which does not cost more than 5 tanks of petrol a month I will bring it up in Dec. Want to play a bit between Christmas and new year. Want to put 100hrs on by end Jan.
