It was found yesterday. They did a forced LOB in the sticks somewhere. All OK.
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.

Besides landmarks like the Augrabies, is there much or any detail to identify that barren area on a map?

One of the easier areas to nav. Look at a topo map. Plenty of features to nav on, lots of mountains and few roads. Roads are easily identified, because there are only a few, and provide excellent line features. Flew plenty charters in C210's from Windhoek to Calvinia, Springbok, Aggenys etc. Even once had to pick up fuel in Loeriesfontein  . Then did regular mercy flights from Windhoek to Cape Town in Barons and C402's. Also flew the Namib Air schedule regularly from Windhoek to Upington via Keetmanshoop in C402's. And yes, you guessed it, in the times before GPS. Only with 1:1 000 000 topo maps. Imagine how miffed a fare paying passenger will be if you get lost. Southern Namibia and Cape is easy to nav on. Northern Nam and Botswana was more tricky, but we did not get lost. Only sometimes temporary unsure of your position vhpy , but never lost. The embarrasment in front of your pax would have been too big. Might as well commit harakiri. Always delivered pax at destination they wanted to go to.
