ELANDS fly away Weekend - 13-16 DECEMBER 2014

Elands Quad Camp is just North of the R573 on the Northern side of the Elands River about 22Km east of Marble Hall.
(For those driving, Oom Polla help here please)

From N1 turn east onto Zambezi Rd.
Proceed for 800 meters and turn left at at the Chinese Mall. ( Malotto Rd).
Drive about 110 km straight until you see fruit stalls on your left.
Turn left at fruit stalls on Roetan RD.
Proceed for about 9 km. ( through 4 way stop,.)
Turn Left toward river at board 'Elands Quad and Microlights'.
In short, from Pta to the farm you turn to your left only once.! ( once you are on the Malotto rd.)
There is no other short cut.

Dankie Oom Polla vir all jou gasvreyheid en die aanwysings.

Die manne is wispeltuurig. Ek en ten minste Rhodie en miskien Shrek2 sal Frydag oggend daar wees. Dawid het ook gesê hy sal van Standerton af deurvlieg. Bundy het belowe vir Saterdag oggend. En hy vlieg elke Frydag ter voorbereiding. Madman sal ook Saterdag oggend van XWinds deurvlieg.

Die weer moet net ook saamspeel samblief.

From the early wx predictions for Friday and Saturday, my suggested flight plan from microland (FABA) to Elands on Friday is as follows:

Depart 5 am Sharp:
FABA, 5 AM - wind north easterly 9 Knt - runway 03 - 120.35 ----125.4 Mhz
FABA to edge of TMA (21.8nm) - fly just below TMA, 7600 ft - winds north easterly increasing to 14 knts at 6000ft and then decreasing to 4 knt westerly at 8400 ft - 125.4 Mhz
Edge of TMA (FAD128 Pta FTA) to country (18.7nm) - increase altitude to where it is calm, up to 9 000 ft (transision level) because - winds westerly 4 knts at 8400 ft becoming SOUTHERLY and increasing to 10 knts at 10 000 ft - 124.40 Mhz.
Edge of FAD128 to Elands - stay above escarpment (8400 ft) to maintain SOUTHERLY wind, surface winds at Elands less than 5 knts, north easterly - runway 04 (remember spot landing) - 124.8 MHz.

Above 9 000 ft, remember the semi-circular VFR rule, ENO, Easterly = Odds +500ft & Westerly = Evens +500ft, at standard QNH,1013!!.

But this may all change on the day.

Wow, we are going to have a 6-8 mph headwind tomorrow morning.

Due to rain and poor viz Mark and myself had to turn back this morning. This weather thing is unacceptable. We will try again with Bundy and the others tomorrow. Dawid got as far as Witbank and then had to turn back.
