60 Years: Brits Flying Club 11-13 July 2014

Postby kloot piloot » Fri Mar 28, 2014 7:51 am

Brits Flying Club was founded in 1954.

Planning is in an advanced stage for our 60th anniversary for the weekend of 11 - 13 July. The Saturday will be the main event but I will keep you all posted.

Please book 12 July for a mass microlight fly-in to Brits :!:

Wingover,
A more detailed programme to follow soon, but we expect people to fly in from the Friday afternoon. Big braai and fire that evening and sleep over/camp for those interested.
Saturday lots of fun flying, scenic route flying, RC, hexacopter display, gliding display and aero-towing, beer garden, stalls, food, car displays etc. Saturday evening will be a more formal function and dinner, but still everyone welcome although need to book in advance.

As for the microlights, welcome anytime but I expect the majority to come on Saturday morning, breakfasts etc. Will have radio manned but no ATC. Normal FABS frequency, 124.20.

Sunday morning again breakfasts etc.

Nico, will make a plan in my hangar. I've got space for one more. We will give hangarage as far as possible, but there are also lots of areas where the trikes can park safely away from the elements. There will also be guards on duty.

PROGRAMME of EVENTS
FRIDAY 11 JULY
Arrivals are expected from 14H00. Find ideal parking and secure a shaded spot under a bushveld tree to pitch your tent.
Book your seat (numbers are limited) for the Saturday evening dinner and event. Set off into the sunset for a late afternoon flight over our beautiful area.
From 18H00 braai-packs, salads, pap, sheba and rolls are available at the clubhouse. Braai and enjoy a BIG bonfire around our Compass Braai.
SATURDAY 12 JULY
Early morning microlight arrivals. Enjoy coffee and rusks.
Microlights depart on a scenic flight to Tshwaing Crater or Roodekoppies Dam via the Crocodile River.
From 07H30 till late BREAKFASTS are available in the CLUBHOUSE
The INFO desk will be open early for registration for the evening event.
A short briefing will be held at 09H30 in the CLUBHOUSE with general info of the proceedings and program, followed by LOTS of FREE FLYING.
Interested pilots and their families can join a guided aerial tour of our area. The tour leader, Deon van den Berg will give moving commentary (on frequencies to be announced). Please note this is not a competition, but a relaxed scenic flight in a group. So take your Go-Pro with and mount your Mother in Law on the wing, or something like that..
The rest of the day is filled with more FREE FLYING, RC helicopter flying inside a hangar, RC static and active displays and the Virtual flyers strutting their Nano-bytes.
Kranskop Gliding Club will aerotow gliders and display thermal flying over the airfield.
Feast on our food throughout the day and the thirsty will be lavished in our beer tent.
We are expecting lots of interesting aircraft on the day, so do not miss out on lots of lovely slow fly-pasts.
An EVENING in the CLUBHOUSE from 18H30
Open hearth KAGGEL fire and sherry
DRESS code will be SMART CASUAL
This function will be for pre-booked guests and guests of honour only (our seating is limited). For bookings please contact our airfield manager, Johan Booyens at info@britsflyingclub.co.za or 071 444 0928.
Master of Ceremony, Karl Jensen, will lead us into an evening of Club history and speakers. We plan to keep formalities short and the “geselligheid” very long.

SUNDAY 13 JULY
Microlighters are welcome and coffee will be ready.
Breakfast from 08H00 at the CLUBHOUSE
A SCENIC HISTORIC group flight will be “captained” by KARL JENSEN. Sites to be flown over include several dams, the Crater, Marikana and the Magalies mountain range. All aircraft speeds will be catered for in 2 groups. Those who want to return to the Club are welcome to do so.
All other departures thereafter at own discretion, depending on how much you enjoyed (indulged in) the Bushveld hospitality and experience.

60th Anniversary memorabilia will be on sale, including personalized embroidery done on the day.
The Club will publish an Anniversary Book and we make another urgent request for anyone who has old photographs or any other bit of Club history available, to contact Hans at 082 656 3005 or mail to hans.s@britsgranite.co.za
