Secunda Airshow 12 October

Postby Tumbleweed » Sat Aug 03, 2013 7:31 pm

Airshow Logo.jpg
The Secunda Flying Club is pleased to announce the Secunda Airshow which will take place on Saturday the12th of October 2013.

In celebration of the refurbishing of our runway and facilities and to show appreciation to our sponsors, we will showcase an A grade airshow with unrivalled entertainment to dazzle the aviation enthusiast and public alike.

Besides securing the top display acts, a huge variety of food stalls and craft market to support our charities, we will sustain the standard by presenting a top class live rock show to entertain during and well after the air display in our suitably matched beer garden.

Overnight fly in visitors are most welcome, from Friday till Sunday, either to camp under the wing or make use of local accommodation. Security will be provided and details of participating vendors to provide discounted rates and shuttle services will be announced shortly.

Fly in visitors on the Saturday need to ensure that they arrive by 9h00 so as not to disrupt the display and not rely on departure slots for the duration of the show.

Ample opportunity exists for corporate sponsorship and advertising, limited static displays and intro / pleasure flips on the Sunday.

For further details view us on Facebook/ Secunda Airshow or contact Hannes at 082 577 6581, Leon le Roux 083 629 1119 or e.mail dalenevheerden@gmail.com.

From Avcom.

"

Good day.

We're encouraging aircraft to fly in and as pilots know that it’ a jol and adds to the ambiance and authenticity of the show but have to manage the program which the display pilots take precedent.

The show officially starts around 10h00 till about 16h00, so our 09h00 limit is to allow the display pilots and a few stragglers to fly in. Weather permitting, the sun sets around 18h00 in October so plenty of time for a 100 mile radius flight.

There will be a lunch break but we encourage everyone to enjoy the whole show and just two hours which might delay the program and impact the ending time of the display.

Events from our last airshow decided for us to control a bit more. For example the opening display was extended by flying an apt and emotional missing man formation for the previous week's Tzaneen tragedy.

The demand for Harvard and Dakota flips were unprecedented which obviously impacted on the program. A gaggle of trikes which encountered problems were allowed in during the display which when receiving a payment for fuel noticed a shortfall of a coupla grand for 'accommodating inbound traffic'

Marshalls were present and directing in bound planes to vacate to the prescribed parking areas yet some decide (you always get one) to insist on back tracking to the holding point to park amongst exhibitors and the public.

It also doesn’t help when individuals approach the ATC for a take-off slot whilst the show in progress and the display pilots are sweating on the flight line to accommodate.

Our mid-day lunch break departure slot was eaten up by the delays which had the pre-arranged departure slot consumed. The sweating pilots idling/ switch -off/ warm up were understandably irritated.

So common sense will prevail. There's nothing nicer than flying into an airshow but we want to encourage taking advantage of the whole event.

Fly in the previous afternoon, camp under the wing or take advantage of our accommodation arrangement which will shuttle pilots to and from their venues, bond with your flying mates while helping test the beer garden, enjoy a spit braai and maybe see a unique night display show followed by some live music entertainment.

Stay after the airshow and enjoy the massive after party with a huge pumping beer garden, rock bands and braai and depart at your leisure on the Sunday morning after having enjoyed the best flying event of the year.

We have a very full program for the airshow but we have moved the line up a little earlier to start the show at 9h30 which allows us to fit in a 30 minute departure slot at lunch. The show will be until 15h30.

Regards.

The planning is coming together at a frantic rate.

Our accomodation sponsors Graceland Casino and Lake Umuzi are now both fully booked.

The following participating Bed &N Breakfasts have offered preferential rates as well as shuttle service to and from the airfield, so no need to leave the festivities.

1. Cascade Villa, Estelle Viljoen 082 787 2550, 2 km from the airfield, from R 490 p.p single

2. Ricky & Jo. We can help all, groups Large + Small, Shuttle Service available. 082 3213962

We have had several inquiries for groups flying in from distances so book early. Of course rustic camping is available but not for sissies.

With some possible Friday evening Harvard lighting display  .......... and the welcoming intrusion of some military flying precision  ........the lunch time departure slot has shrunk a bit so stay overnight and get your money's worth at our beergarden in the company of good friends and some good rock music.

Will post the ATNS Notam when I figure out how to shrink it.

OK Guys, so who is going...

As I am waiting for my airie to be completed, I will be driving in unless there is someone going from the Pretoria / Centurion area with an open back seat...

That said, if there is anyone else in the Centurion Area who is keen and wants to share a ride, drop me a PM and we can sort it out...

Cheers

The weather's looking awesome.

No landing fees or entrance fees for fly- in visitors, pensioners and primary kids- no entrance fee- we have a sponsor. vhpy

Airspace should be busy from around 8h30 with many expected visitors and display aerries arriving so get here early. Marshals are there to assist.

Due to the late Silver Falcons addition and others, it is probable that departure slots at lunch time may be gobbled up as the program takes precident, so plan on staying for the day.

The display should finish around 16h00 so ample time to depart. We also have a thumpin beergarden driven by a serious 5 piece rock band as well as 15 kegs of 50 draught amongst others to finish so extended October fest all in one. Bring lots of cash. (^^)

Chuck a sleeping bag to stay the night and get your money's worth.

For fuel emergencies - no vehicles in the perimeter, I'll have two 20 lt and one one lt jerry cans 95 unleaded.

Thanks Andries and Monica for all your hospitality and help. And to Andries for organizing the hangar to get poor AMH away from the 25 knt winds. Had an uneventful 1 hr 10 min flight back this morning. (^^)

Hope Kevin's ankle is getting better. xxx

Paul, it was an absolute pleasure to have you and Dionne as our guests for the weekend vhpy See you next Saturday for the tailwinds braai. Kevin is o/k, hopping around in an ankle brace, but at least mobile!
I will share with you some beautiful pictures of the aircraft that took part in the airshow, when I see you next Saturday.

Thanks Andries, glad to hear Kevin is OK and mobile. Hopefully he will be able to ride on the back of your bike on Saturday to Microland for The Fly & Braai?

I also want to thank the Secunda Flying Club for their organising and marshaling, the volunteering wives and kids, all the officials who were interacting, providing re-fuelling, catering and then my fellow pilots that flew/drove in for the event.
