Asterix's 40th Birthday Fly-inn: Beginsel,Standerton

Postby Asterix » Fri Feb 08, 2013 6:50 pm

Dudes, if you were not aware, I am turning 40 on 7 June 2013 - (which is a Friday).

Because I have been a travelling soul for the last 15 - 20 years, I really only have two bunches of people for which I truly care - 1. My Family and 2. My fellow aviators. I have not had time to shoot roots other than the aforementioned, save a handful of longtime friends - who will be there in any event.)

Obviously - I want to be, (and am going to be) at Beginsel over that weekend.

30 minutes ago I got the call: "We want to do something special for your 40th. What would you like?"

My answer was: FLY-INN!! ## ## In this way I have all my family and my winged friends with me, and it gives them an excuse for a flying weekend.

Details to follow - but roughly - fly in Friday, or Sat morning. Spend the day with me, with brunches etc, some flying over Grootdraaidam, we have my 40th in the mieliestoor - trikes all neatly parked inside to the back - on Sat evening - with all the trimmings - and flyback on Sunday. (late take-off probably because of fog - but it is winter - should be fine to fly late morning. (Also I'll pray seriously for good weather over the weekend that I become 40 - I trust those prayers will be answered.)

This is an open invitation to all my fellow aviators to join me on my 40th birthday. It will cost you only your fuel - and believe me - the Beginsel people is well known for their hospitality.

Even if you only know me via this forum - dude - you are my friend.

For now - BOOK THE WEEKEND! Details will follow.

( I might be there fresh from the KBB trip - if that realises..otherwise I will be there in any case!) (^^)

It would be a memorable occasion to me if you would fly in. No other gift from anyone would mean more to me, than spending the occasion of my 40th with some fellow aviators.

Guys - at this stage I need to gauge interest so that I can work on an approx. number in order to book accomodation etc.

So I need to know who might be interested in principle in order to get the planning going - I want this to be nice - (remember it is WINTER then in Standerton, NO sleepin' under planes - you will DIE  )

So I can put down "Chaingang" x 3 people??  :?: (Bugwar is already in.)

Yes of course you may. And you had better be there - I'm not gonna drink all the beer by myself! ##

Dudes again - the idea of this thread is to gauge interest so that I can start BUDGETING! ## Remember this is not a normal fly-inn, but an invitation to a birthday party - so I need to make sure you don't sleep in -3C conditions on a hard floor.

So again - details will follow once I have an approx idea of how many people may attend. xxx

The troll aside - s117 guys please remember I will need final numbers in a month's time. ## I need to make sure that you have lodgings that will keep you from freezing to death - Standerton becomes -4C at night in winter. Your trike crunches little pathways throught the frost as you taxi out.!

The nice spin-off is that IF the fog lifts at anything between 09h00 and 11h00, the air is xxx . (Barring a westerly that decides to ruin your day as soon as you can see! )

So - two things are certain for your return trip Sunday morning:

1. You WILL have breakfast first - because you can't leave before you can see - which is way past breakfast time;

2. You MIGHT get hammered a wee bit once the fog lifts, and our Westerly friend rears its head! (Ask anybody who had to contend with that S.O.B two years ago returning from Secunda..)

Luckily, I know that my friends can handle turbulence, (Oi -joi-joi.. ), the country going back up to GP is nice and flat with plenty landing spots, and if push comes to shove - PLENTY of hangar space in the mieliestore, which has been extended over the last 3 months. (^^)
