The Microland Files Episode 1: 17/11/2012
Good Morning guys,
Date: 17/11/2012
Time: 11h00
Place: Microland Airfield
THE MICROLAND FILES EPISODE 1
Hang Gliders fly at 12h00...why dont we?
I would like to invite all interested pilots to an informative discussion to be hosted by our friend and fellow Microlighter, Roel Jansen (Klootpiloot).
Roel has a great knoweledge of the weather and I believe we may gain great insight and a better understanding of the sky. With his hang gliding experience, Roel has a multitude of knowledge to share with us on topics related to the weather, such as.... flying in turbulence, Thermals, soaring, convection, stable/unstable air, predicting good flying conditions and some would say.... more importantly....predicting and understanding bad flying conditions!
Meteorology is perhaps one of the most important, yet widely misunderstood subjects related to flying...I could certainly do with a "refresher"...and I hope you will consider attending this fun and informative talk.
Cost: R50 per person
This includes a 90 min talk by our guest, two man sized Boerie Rolls, some pap en sous and a coldrink/tea or coffee.
You are welcome to bring your own beverages too, for the inevitable "hanger talk" afterwards.
Please RSVP here if you would like to attend. The talk is open to all interested pilots from all disciplines.
Microland's Lapa can comfortably seat 30, so attendence is limited to this number on a first come first served basis.
Bookings are payable in advance. (for catering purposes)
Banking Details:
A M Hussey
ABSA Cheque Acc: 4055715703
Branch: 632005
I hope you will join us for an enjoyable and insightful day.
Many Thanks,
Al "Bundy" Hussey

Alan.
On the next weekend you can arrange the same lecture either in Barberton or Nelspruit.
Wish I was closer to your airfield to attend. A very interresting topic. Can only do us pilots good.

Re: The Microland Files Episode 1: 17/11/2012
I have a serious question for Bundy: Is this part of a project to gather all the scientific data before taking the beautiful dawn up for some beautiful midday turbs??
Kloot is probably gonna tell us to just ride the thermals, stop fighting the bar and enjoy the sudden 1000 ft per minute ascents, (especially with fuel prices where they are - some free altitude), and just keep the trike away from a stall or a "gat-gly", with small pitch inputs!! Also, how to turn to remain IN the thermal!
Jokes aside - gonna try my best to fly in. 125 miles, as The Yellow Cobra flies. My last couple of X countries were more than this - so with a little "neutral" attitude from the wx gods - 2 hours.
I really miss 03 Microland...and some of you oafs...

Yes and no... I have been wanting to start this initiative for quite some time....just thought this subject would be a good one to start with (remember that article I wrote a few weeks back re "making a list"?)Asterix wrote:I have a serious question for Bundy: Is this part of a project to gather all the scientific data before taking the beautiful dawn up for some beautiful midday turbs??
Regular refreshers are great, and I dont believe you can ever know everything about flying? There is always something new to learn or perhaps re address... something to understand better....or improve on?
It's also a damn good excuse to meet each other and pop a few ales down the hatch in good company
Thanks for the positive response guys,
Confirmed so far:
Bundy (ML)
Anthony Hugo (Rhinopark)
Johan Henning (Heidelberg)
Nico Willemse (Potties)
Asterix (Potties and ML)
Nick Swart (ML)
Jaco (ML)
Total: 7
Please dont forget to pay guys If you are listed above, you will be catered for... and Money buys the boerie! (Banking details listed above)
I will finalise the attendence list on the 13th Nov. I think a Max of 30 persons will be the limit...let's see how it goes?
