The Eva's Field squadron from the Midlands will be flying up to meet you on the 1st

hopefully we will intercept you on the final leg of the trip down and arrive at Dragon Peaks at the same time vhpy vhpy

please keep us informed of your plans so we can co-ordinate things from our side

some fly away breakfast destinations to consider are:

Himeville airfield

Ladysmith airfield

Battlefields

Waffle hut, adjacent to the Glenside airfield near Winterton

And of course a trip to the Midlands is compulsory and breakfast at our Airfield (!!)

Hi Ian/Francois/Rudi/Nathan and other locals that would like to join.
How about Saturday the 20th of April at Kroon. I will arrange some Boeries for breakfast. We can do our planning at the Clubhouse. That is 2 weeks before the trip. The weekend before this it is Kitty Hawk so this is about the latest we can do this.
Ian has done this trip a few times so we will listen to his advice as we all are rookies when it comes to the Berg.
I will have Easyplan there so that we can play around with some routes.
We can even get the others to join us on a Skype Video call like the guys from the Freestate and James Bently and Co. We have WiFi at the Clubhouse.

Standing by to discuss the trip on the 20th via Skype...

Just to give you a taste of what to expect when you venture down to the 'Berg next month (^^) (^^)

we woke up this morning to a beautiful view of the mountains with the first sprinkling of snow this season

it is really early for the first snow so parhaps a cold winter can be expected ? (**)

Hi Johan, Ian Laing, Yellow Savannah (hangars at Aeroden) has booked and confirmed. He will join us at Kroon for your briefing on 20th.

Also I did a recce flight to some of the possible first stop airfields yesterday. See a summary below ?

Refuel/ stop options South of JHB

Oranjeville

S26 58’ 40” (all deg mins secs)
E028 11 38

Fine for a stop, cross dirt runways, access for cars fine.
Caution - cattle were seen near to runway

Comment - A good stop if flying from Crosswind (72 Miles) (West JHB) and carrying own fuel.

Frankfort – FAFF – Cat B

S27 17 19
E028 30 46

01/19 1100m
11/29 900m
Fine for a stop, cross dirt runways, access for cars fine

Caution – some loose stones on runways, tarred section outside hangars has some potholes.

Comment – a good option if refueling from carried fuel. (100 Miles from Crosswinds)

Ground crew will have to deviate off N3 further than Grootdraai

Grootdraai – FAGroot – Cat B

S27 01 56
E028 39 28

18/36 940M
Fine for a stop, 1 grass runway.

Most convenient if using ground crew – deviation from N3 at Villiers is minimal. (92 Miles from Crosswinds)

Will bring some photographs on 20th

Cheers ian
