EAA 322 Prawn Festival Fly-in - Komatipoort 21-23 June 2012

Hi Guys,
Kitplanes will be hosting the EAA chapter 322 fly in to Komatipoort this year. The fly in is at the same time as the Komatipoort prawn festival. We will be having a mini prawn fest at the airfield, just in case the main event doesn't have enough prawns. We have contacts in Mozambique who will be supplying us with fresh LM prawns for the day. One of the locals will picth a beer tent, so refreshments will be on tap. Pap and sous will be available and braai packs will be supplied on order. We will have transport to and from the main festival on an hourly basis at a small fee.

We cleared an area of more than 7 ha for parking and camping around the factory hangers. A big thanks to Craig Starker of Lowveld Machinery and Sands for sponsoring his earthmoving equipment as well as some of our students for picking up the diesel tab for the machines. This promises to be a great event.

We would like to see aircraft of all categories. We will supply more details closer to the time.

No need for anti freeze in Komati. Winter temps seldom go below 6degr at night and above 26 during the day. Very lekke place to be that time of the year.

So far 40 aircraft confirmed bookings and 15kg of prawns on order. The Harvard club and African Pilot is also joining us for the weekend. Lets make this an event to remember.

Where are all the Bushbabies, Explorer's and Safari's. Lets make this a record attempt for our aircraft.

I am keen..this would really be a trip to remember

Would be flying from Crosswinds airfield in Tarlton.

So far I thought of heading from Crosswinds to Circus Airfield,then to Witbank where I would top up fuel,then head to Pyramid where I would again top up for the long stretch to Komati

50 litres in the tank,25 on the back seat...fuel burn 10l an hour...I would then arrange for fuel at Witbank and Pyramid,just to stay on the safe side.

I fly a Windlass 503 with Aquilla 1 wing,cruise is 50mph hands off the bar...So it will be a looong one for me

Schedule so far:
Pilots can fly in from the Thursday already although the main event will be Friday night and Saturday.
We will have a Prawn Braai on Friday late afternoon with a bon fire and some lekker kuier.

Saterday morning we will have coffee and rusks followed by a morning fly away in the area. Guys wanting breakfast or a brunch can place a breakfast order at the local Wimpy who will gladly deliver a hearty breakfast.( We will organise all this for you). We will have a braai fire going most of the day for the hungry. We will also have some cold drinks and water available for sale at the airfield.

Saterday night there is a live show and beer tent at the main festival. We will once again have a lekker big bon fire for groot kuier and lots of stories for the guys that want to remain at the airfield.
