Gauteng Natal Mpumalanga - Week of 16 June 2011

Postby Asterix » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:39 am

Paul de Kock and me started to discuss a trip down to the coast for around 16 June. We are still playing with the route but for now:

Microland - Standerton - Volksrust - Dundee - Light Flight - Ballito - Empangeni - Ezulwini - Sodwana - Pyramid - Arnot - Microland. About 730 nm, 19 hours @ 40kts. We just need to decide the time we will allow ourselves - my take is to use the whole week so as to really enjoy it and not race against the clock. Who wants to give inputs and help with planning?

You would need transponders for Balito, and Richardsbay is on the sea if you go there instead of Empangeni.

Nice people at Empangeni, they have a few private airstrips (^^) (^^) which they can take you to.

But allround nice flying scenery around there

THERE YOU GO! I KNEW BLUE MAX WOULD BE IN!! Guys this is serious - Me and Blue Max did our first coastal trip last year May, and we sure as hell will do it again - but extend it a bit. I am serious about this trip - that is why I posted this early in the year - it gives enough time for inputs regarding route, time and vacation planning. ##

How nice would it be for a lot of guys to do this trip? And, if we give ourselves enough time we can really enjoy it, stay over a bit at some locations and do some local flying, relax and have a few (^^) in between, and come back rested and relaxed, as opposed to flying against the "Monday morning 08h00 must be in the office again" deadline. Nice and relaxed - not a rally. The route is open for discussion - We could go back directly from Ezulwini to Standerton after spending a day or two coastal sight seeing - Me and Blue Max went right through from Ezulwini (near St Lucia) back to Standerton in one morning on our way back - no problem! Also, the guys at Vryheid (yes - you Ataltitude!!) and Volksrust are very nice and accomodating!

I would rather cut the route back a bit short - maybe cut the leg over Swaziland and that awfull escarpment between Pyramid and Arnot, spend a day or two more steaming up and down the coast and then head back FAVY - FAVL - Standerton. Next morning 90 minutes back to Microland. (!!)

Come on Gauteng based pilots!! ## ## (GT guys - just plan your own legs please - my arms word te seer van bar trek!

En o-ja - Oom Paul - BOGGER die &%$%^ nuwe CTA rondom Shaka Zulu s071 s071 s117 s072 met al sy transponder k@k - ons vlieg OM die donner as ons nie daar welkom is nie! s072 s067 s079

Now this sounds like a jol never to be missed...count me in!

Would love to hear more..discuss the trip.Just got my licence the 26-11-2010,so this would be my first long journey.

Any tips and advice would be most appreciated.I fly a Windlass 503 with a 14msq Aquilla 1 wing..I cruise at 55mph solo, bar in 65 to 70mph..lol,known to be quite fast for a 503.

What are the avg speeds on such trips and how often would we land?I fly from Circus,so where would we rondevous as Microland and Circus are far apart?Just trying to get a rough estimation..in total, what would one spend more or less?

I hope Im not being too difficult...

Thanx and have an awesome day!

Gauteng Natal Mpumalanga - Week of 16 June 2011

Hi,

Ground support guaranteed at Light Flight. !!!!

If you are going to over night in the area - suggest Emoyeni Flight Park. Nice bar, restaurant and accommodation at reasonable prices.

Most people will have 4 days, a week is a bit long.

We will spend a bit more time on the planning and post a more detailed prelim route

This is looking to be one of those "you can't miss" opportunities....4 days sounds better....will there be a ground crew?
