Hi Tobie,

Some info from the Kalahari, Sishen(FASS) near a town called Kathu +- 26 Miles West of Kuruman (FAKU). The strip is open to anyone and the military uses it when they have exercises at Luwhatla. Tar strip +- 1 800 m and 20m Wide 17/35. Now is a great time to fly in and winter also great as air is very smooth. Kathu town is +- 10km from strip. No fuel at the airstrip and Radio 123.5 and occassionaly ATIS messages are broadcast on this frequency.

If I can be of any help please let me know.

Regards

Gary

Clem - a few fixed wings from PE already booked, so no problem with company for the trip.

Tobie - reverse your trip and join us - or plan on being at Molopo for the same dates?

Hey All,

So how are the arrangements going for this trip? Has dates been confirmed etc? Weather is turning for the better up here in the Northern Cape and the flying window is opening up so the excitement is quite high here. Looking forward to seeing you guys...

Thanks for reply... yes send my regards to Abrie.

Is the Flamingo still flying out of your airfield?

Am in your digs the next 10 days.... have work to do at Hitricon @ Sishen

Also going to do a checkride with Wynand at Kimberley Flying School in Kuruman on Sunday with either the J160, J430 or C172 - whatever is available... will pass over your airspace on a cross country Kuruman - Kathu - Olifantshoek - Griekwastad - Postmasburg (some touch & goes) and back to Kuruman!

Wish my Cheetah was airborne and airworthy. Have asked Maarten if I could use his maar die boere is maar styf met hulle goed. He hangars ZU-DLI out at Romance (Corne de Jager & late Johan de Jager's farm) Maybe go for a flip with Jannie Visser in Postmasburg in the Bantam Super six....?

Agree - FLY SAFE!

Hi John,

Well if you in this area we should maybe get together and have a cold one (^^) (^^) . When you flying? This weekend I am going to be flying saturday and sunday morning...I will listen out for you. I saw the J430 from kimberley flying school at Sishen (FASS) this past weekend but alas...the wind was pumping.

So I am working Hotazel in projects, some good stuff, but nothing like flying...and let me tell you the flying out here is awesome. I usually fly out past Deben and look at some game on the various hunting farms...will post a small video clip of some rhino in the area.

Well John, you must go well and if we don't speak before you do your flight, good luck.

Regards

Gary

I am definitely keen to join your group along the way! I have flown this route from Molopo to Cape Town many..many times and it is always a blast. I just need to confirm a hunt that I had arranged for the same time...
Maybe you guys from the Eastern Cape can organize me an alternative hunt in the area for a later date....!

I reckon i could get together another five machines from the Cape

Later...

PS I have a cottage on the beach in the diamond area along the West Coast north of Vredendal .... welcome to use it!
