Back in SA.
The strips at Elephant Sands and Pandamatenga are definitly not servicable. It looks like it will have to be Gweta and/or Nata that will be a refuel stop on our way to Kasane. There are three strips on the A33 between Nata and Kasane which are part of the road. They are clearly marked on the road and each is a kilometer or more long. We can easily refuel on one of them as well. There is very little traffic on the road and they are definitly official strips.
Spoke to the debriefing officer at Kasane and he informed me:
1) No transponder required. Just report on VHF (118.6) when 10Nm out.
2) They will arange an un unlimited flying package. As a ballpark, for 10 planes for 4 days, P5000 ~~ P125 p/p/p/d. I think it is a bargain!
3) To fly to Vic Falls you need to log a flight plan and request clearance 24 hrs in advance. No costs involved?
The road strips are at, S18.10809 E25.32046, S19.04527 E25.70529 & S19.66665 E26.03149.
Francistown, Nata, Maun & Kasane have 93 or 95 UL MOGAS. Price, P9.80/L
Ben, owner of Elephant Sands will put me in contact with someone in Maun that will give me details of disused Hunting camps with strips in the forest reserves south of Chobe.
