The Swellengrebel Flying Club hosts its annual Fly In from 1 to 3 April. This year's Fly In will be special - the Sport Aerobatic Club of South Africa, those brave pilots who think aeroplanes should be flown upside down, sideways, and sometimes in reverse, presents its first competition of the year over the same weekend in Swellendam. Competitors are judged in three sessions from Saturday morning to Sunday lunch. About 15 aerobatic pilots are expected at the Swellendam competition. Some of the pilots have more than 20 000 flying hours under the belt - a formidable team of participants, regardless of where in the world.
The weekend offers a variety of entertainment, especially for parents who want to end the school holidays on a high. The club offers meals throughout the weekend, and the bar is open to the public. Boat cruises on Buffeljagsdam are on the agenda on Saturday and Saturday night is synonymous with live music by artists from the region. There is also a taxi service available for visitors who fly to Swellendam for the weekend. The weekend is open to the public. Visitors are welcome to book accommodation in one of the many guest houses through Swellendam Tourism - www.swellendamtourism.co.za
