I would like to compliment the organizers for the excellent ground and air control. We flew in Friday afternoon and we tied down our trikes next to the apron just of RWY 10 - purely because that seemed like a good spot, next to Edwin's and Koos's Cheetahs already parked there.
Throughout Saturday lots and lots of big blikke with BIG props and LOTS of propwash taxi'd past our trikes to the 10 threshold, not to mention the Harvards taxiing past our trikes every 30 minutes or so, the whole day. The ground marshals did an excellent job directing planes from start-up, through taxi instructions, and right down to parking and shutdown - all of this without operating aircraft blowing dust and dirt on parked aircraft. ( not to mention the prospect of a blown over trike!)
Air Traffic Control was also excellent, with the advisory service affording us in our trikes the same level of "importance" as the Harvards and the other big and fast aircraft in and near the circuit.
I always have a sense of trepidation when sharing a circuit with big / fast / a lot of, aircraft - waiting for someone to make snide remarks about the samoosas. But I have to say - when we went for a local flight Saturday afternoon, I felt like a professional pilot, being treated by the advisory service in a professional, non- discriminatory way. Because I felt comfortable and "equal", I shot of some of the best radiowork I had ever done! Ask Bugwar - he knows I break out in a panicky sweat when I have to talk to a controller ever since my mishap with the Towerguy @ Oribi (" Delta Lima Yankee - East is East, and West is West")!
Over and above the fact that it was an awesome fly-inn, it also left me improved in terms of radiowork.
Thanx FANY!!
