Re: Battlefields- mid May. Who's going?
FYI guys
Landing at battlefields is entirely at pilots discretion and own risk.
Frequency 124.8.
RWY 11/29. +-850m usable
Rwy 11 is uphill and preferred - be careful of windsheer as you drop into the "wind shadow" of the rise in the rwy - you can easily lose 10-15kts airspeed in a second or so when the wind is moderate to strong E.
There are Eskom powerlines diagonally crossing the long final for 11 - not a problem for normal approach. but be aware.
If there is a strong N Westerly then 29 is obviously preferred but watch out for quartering crosswind turbulence off the lodge buildings on your right (1-2 o'clock)- a bit of extra speed and lower flap setting can help. - plan to land a little deeper to mitigate - just not too deep if your brakes are dodge. Go arounds have no major obstacle hazards.
Otherwise no funnies other than to be expected in a normal arrival...
Trust this assists.
