Replacement battery pack for Gramin 296

Postby IceAge » Tue Apr 08, 2014 2:29 pm

Anybody that could point me in the direction where I can get a replacement battery for a Garmin 296 gps without having to donate both an arm and a leg?

Thanks

Hi

Had the same problem end of last year.
As Garmin do not supply batteries for the 296 air or road GPS - i got the last one in Windhoek from Electronic guys.
They pointed me to Marine electronic company is Walvisbay.
Believe they have a lot of this GPS on boats and fishing and can supply the marine battery which is 100 % the same.
So try the marine industry if you cant get one.
I paid an arm and a leg ( 700 bucks for new battery but luckily they last about 5 years plus)

If you need batteries for radios, GPS etc there are two places in Gauteng that re-populate the old pack. Specialised Battery Systems in Benoni and Stationary and Portable Power Units in Voortrekker rd in Pretoria. Costs between R100 & R200 to repack a radio or GPS battery pack. My GPSMap 276C and IC-22E per packs example.

Vernon, the number for Specialised Battery Systems in Benoni is 011-425 3447.
Not sure about the number for the other firm. Perhaps try 012-3355 734 (at Wonderboom South) as an alternative, if they cannot help you they might be able to refer you to a suitable business. Good luck.

My apologies for not coming back to you Vernon. I did not revisit the thread and see your question.

I see the other pilots sorted you out with the numbers. Hope you managed to do the A6E battery pack.

I even had a new Li-Ion pack fitted to my sons Samsung Tablet 3, by S&P Power Units.... R150 (^^)
