Fuel at Gariep?

Postby Rudix » Thu Sep 13, 2012 4:56 pm

Hi everyone!

I am planning a ferry trip from Saldanha to Rhino Park. Potential stops are Beaufort west and Gariep. I know I can get fuel at Beaufort but can anyone confirm that fuel (95 or avgas) is available at Gariep?

Depending on the weather and time I manage to leave Saldanha I might also consider sleeping over at Gariep, I know there is accommodation but is it far from field?

Any info will be appreciated! Thanks!
Fly safe,
Rudi

Hi Bud,
Accomodation is quite far from the field. You will need transport.
Speak to Jaco he might be able to help you with mogas also. He is the owner of the Garage in Gariep.
He gave us a lift last time to the B&B.

Nice long tar runway. Airfield about 4-5km from accomodation and supermarket. The road from airfield to civilization passes alongside the local informal settlement. Empty hangers, but locked. Yes speak to Jaco. Cheap accomodation at the local resort. Think it is Forever Resort Group, not to sure.

Thanks for the info!

I think I won't sleep over at Gariep, just stop for fuel, I prefer sleeping close to my plane vhpy

Hi Boet!

Thanks, I think I would rather fly all the way back if I manage to leave early enough, else, and this is the option I prefer, is leave Saldanha a bit later, take a nice scenic trip to Beaufort West and sleep over there, I have stayed there before and it was great! Then leave early the next morning (no worries about transport to the field vhpy ) and refuel at Gariep before the last stretch to Rhino. All being well should be at Rhino before 11am.

Avgas at Gariep will be fine, no need for mogas.

Hope to see you and the flying field!
Regards at home,
Rudi

Hi! Hope you are well, how is that BMW engine doing?

I will be flying the KR2 in the photo below. I am working on an economy cruise of 130mph for my calculations but that can be taken up to 150mph without a problem.
