PLANNING FLIGHT: PETIT TO RICHARDS BAY, HELP

Postby Rotorsrule » Mon May 28, 2012 4:06 pm

Hi All

I am planning a flight from Petit to Richards bay. Now in June/July. I am flexable time wise and can plan around the best MET. I will fly with no ground support. Clothes on my back, cash, bit of food, water, 2-strole oil, "survival equipment"
Will be flying in my X-Air. Criuse speed is about 55mpa on a 582. I have planned this trip in vfrplanner. I have never flown this far and are "training" at the moment doing 2 hour cross countries every weekend to different locations.

This will be about a 6.2hour combined flight time. This is for no wind.
x-air has 55litre fuel tank(60lif I go all the way to top)
That is a 295 mile flight. With a minimum fuel burn of 115 litres.

My options are:

Do it in one day, 3 stops (Weather permitting) That will be 3x 2hour hops. Should not be to bad. :?:
or
2 days, 4 stops and enjoy the trip with a bit of sigh seeing. :)

What would the best route be for the stops? I am not to keen to fly over heavy mountain area's, will detour if need be. I will need to arrange with good samaritans to help with fuel in advance.
Any adivce from the experienced ?

Anybody els that wanna go?

Contact ZS-NEL (aka Marius) on this forum, he is an instructor and as flown many cross country's with trikes, even some up in AFRIKA.
