The Super Koala is a two seat, side by side, wood and fabric aircraft with dual controls. It's an extremely docile and forgiving aircraft to fly, but as per all tail dragger aircraft, it requires some training and respect. A CCM license is required with training and conversions freely available at Rhino Park.
The aircraft has a current ATF and is flown regularly. Airframe logbook, and flight folio are available and up to date with no reference to accident history.
The fabric and paint may need some attention.

HI , How does it handle ROC with 2 adults (98Kg each ) ? Did you feel the 582 is underpowered for this configuration ?

98kg x 2 is pushing it.
The aircraft weighs in at 220kg. Add fuel and you're left with around 180kg for pilot and pax. That's pretty much on MAUW.
In JHB, at altitude you're asking for trouble. Particular if the DA isn't in your favor.

I weigh in at 85kg in the morning, naked, after my morning dump and without my wrist watch, and have flown a 70kg pax without any issues. ROC is at 500 ft/ min in that configuration with 30L of fuel.

In terms of power derived from the 582 motor, it's adequate. This isn't a high performance aircraft, and 65HP is the maximum specified for the airframe. Hek, they fly pretty well on 503 engines.

HI Bob

Just out of curiosity, have you tried with more load? Duck and myself are, uhm well lest just say in the 90`s and we both flew very lekker with our Koala`s with the two of us in. Climb out wasn't great but she flew very well. I can say this, after I changed to 3:47 on the 582 and put a 72" prop on she was a rocket!

Just an interesting point... vhpy (-)

To me, when I have the cash again, I will get a Koala. It is an absolute pleasure to fly. The best fun I ever had clothes on and off (some say I'm doing something wrong--I say the plane doesn't complain as much..) Anyone who buys this, knowing that it is an "om die dam" aerie will not be disappointed.

Have fun fly safe

Sanna

Hi Sanna,

It probably would be fine with two up at 90kg each.
I'm conservative, I'm a nerd.

I'm interested in the 3:47 ....

You speak true words! a Genuine Koala Pilot. (salute)

yes, we all know the law about weight etc., and density altitude, More weight just makes her land shorter. :~)
Amasing plane. hasn't killed anybody yet.
Every one I know, ordered another one, after they destroyed it in a sloppy landing.

Bob

This looks like a fun plane ,don't know anything about these little planes;except what I have read on this thread.
Do I buy a bantam for almost 3 times the price or this one.eish what a delema.

Bob I have a LSA licence that I did 6 months ago ;got +- 42 hours taildragger kitfox .had a lekker accident and sold it to the insurance company -ouch .
How easy is this one to fly ;how many hours would it take to convert.+-
I have two options -leave it on the farm in Ladysmith (natal) altitude 3500-4000-how would it handle with two up 180 kg
Other option Ballito -sea level
How old is the motor-is there a mandatory overhaul
How much fuel does it carry
Glide ratio ????
Any other info would be appreciated.
What is wrong with the fabric.his much attention does it need
Cheers Jon

Hi,

My first taildragger was a Super Koala with 582 and she performed very well at the coast. I found the Koala very easy to fly and handle on the ground. Glide ratio is 9:1, if I remember correctly. This is a very honest aircraft, in my opinion, and good value for the asking price! Stall speed is also very low. Mine was @ 32mph.

and you can remove the doors and fly without them...!!
