Reilly's RV 12

Postby Thatchman » Fri Feb 13, 2009 2:47 pm

I just received a wing and empenage kit for a RV12 and the fuselage is ready for shipping. Have converted the garage into a workshop and ready to go. It will be a new experience so lets see how it goes. I will post updates and pics. vhpy

Hey Thatchman you are doing what a lot of us are just dreaming about. Well looks like you have solved the time and money problem. Maybe it is just that your dream is bigger!
Well anyway we will watch your progress with great interest. Are you going for the standard recommended RV12 electronic instruments or are you going for something different?
Wishing you much enjoyment and success with your project! vhpy vhpy

Because if you set up a webcam in Thatch's garage, im afraid you would capture a lot more than plane building - ha ha

Congrats Reilly my boooi, as per our chat, im available to pass spanners and hold up an end if need be, just make sure the beers are cold. Good luck on the project !!! vhpy vhpy vhpy

It does help you know Massimo. I worked out that if you have one wing on the ledt hand side then you have to balance it with one wing on the RHS. vhpy vhpy

I have knocked off the first 27 hours so far and am getting the hang of it.

Starting with the empennage kit, I built the skeletons for the vertical stabiliser, the rudder and the trim tabs.

Got the AP over for inspection so that I could start to skin these parts. He was satisfied with my work so far and last night I completed the trim tabs and the rudder and have posted some pics. It was nice to see it start to come together as opposed to just lots of parts. I will complete the VS tonight.

They are much larger than I had imagined.

The kit is so well made. It all just fits so well together.
