Carl Babst Raven Taildragger - Finally ATF!!!

Postby Induna » Sat Mar 16, 2013 10:28 pm

Hi,

I started an exciting new project, a Carl Babst Raven Taildragger. While Carl is busy constructing the kit, i am aquiring all the extras needed...

Functional specs:

Engine: Rotax 912 ULS
Prop: Sensenich 70" GA prop
Gear: Grove aluminium spring blade
Wheels: Matco W60 6" wheels and hydraulic brakes

I will post some pictures once i get the aircraft kit and when i'm starting to assemble the other components. Engine and FWF kit is due for delivery end of next week. (Thanks to Leon for a great deal...)

I will share my exciting new building experience with you.

Jacques

Hi,

I got some parts, ie. wheels, tyres, master cylinders, axles, etc. Unfortunately the tubes are incorrectly supplied and does not fit the wheels. (Must have 90deg bends in valve)

I am excited to see the 912 FWF kit that I got... Should be delivered by the end of the week.

I will put up some pics soon. I will be out of the country again next week, so I will continue with the project by the end of April. The airframe shouldnt take too long to be ready for collection...

Sounds like an interesting project. Do you have any pics of progress so far?

Hi,

I am currently out of the country and will be back soon. Carl is still busy with the airframe, but I did get the FWF kit and will post some pics as soon as I am back...

I have flown Carl's aircraft for many years now with great happiness and success.
BUT, I have always wanted a taildragger version. This must be one of the prettiest planes around and I not only want to see pics, but I want a ride in her as soon as finished.

Where are you based?????? Please let me know as I am an avid supporter of Carl and maintain that these aircraft are absolutely the best value for money and the least appreciated of any in this country.

Airscrewd, i agree that this is a very underrated aircraft. It's very stable and a forgiving aerie...

It will be based in Saldanha. When you ever visit the lovely West Coast, you are most welcome to take a flip...!

I will post pics as soon as i collect the airframe.

Come on now!!!! Tell Carl get get his "A" into gear.........I want to see this beauty before I get too old. ;-)
When you are ready to fly, we need to talk about trimming the aircraft and this particular prop. I have some experience and some tricks which improve the all-round performance.

Hi, yes I am also anxiously waiting, but Allclad was out of stock on some of the sheeting and extrusions, hence the delay...

This will be the greatest looking Raven in the country with her tailwheel!

Are you referring to the Sensenich prop?
