Thanks Rudi..
Guys , you need to go look at this humble man's build over at
http://www.avcom.co.za/phpBB2/viewtopic ... &start=240
The quality in this build is up with the best !
FAWgie - yes not much to do now on the aerie, but lots of paper work, hangar searching and conversion lessons (hopefully the latter in Slummies..)
Cheers ian

This was the weekend to fit the wings, here we enlist the help of daughter Tracy and 2 suitably padded builder's scaffolds..
Phew... the countless times of measuring the wing mountings whilst lining up the cabin frame paid off, all holes lined up spot on ..
Smiles all round !
Next we have to drill the holes for the top rear spar attachment, the attachment is stainless steel and trying to line up a 6mm drill through the spar (allie) would not work, so a guide was made to get an accurate pilot hole into the attachment.
Then we checked whether all lined up (dunno what we would have done if it didnt..). My mate, after seeing Morph's array of protractor's etc borrowed this 'ultimate' digital level.. It showed all within .1 of a degree..
Then we lined up the ailerons, using the ICP supplied jig. Got the 2 ailerons adjusted well within spec.
Ailerons are adjusted by turning the rose joints on the flapperon mixer in the fuselage..
A half turn gives you around 1mm of adjustment, so thats the minimum resolution.
Ended the weekend by test fitting the jury struts, top...
and bottom..
Cheers ian

Thanks for all your comments guys, nice to get some feedback
Next report.. :
After Slummin it for a stunning weekend fly away it was back to the last 5% which seems to be taking forever....
Fitted a fuse at the battery, wasn't happy having the cable run all the way from the battery to the starter solenoid in the engine bay with no protection.
Fitted the door hinge strengethers to the wings, then drilled out 6mm holes for the hinges (you put in a 4mm rivnut to be able to remove the doors)
Both doors hung surprisingly well, pretty straight (when you assemble the doors and rivet them together you need to strap them down tight on a flat surface)
Here you can see the outside of the door with the 2 hinges fitted. Still have to fit some sealing rubber to the door lips.
The cowling gave me a run for my money, I didn't want to use the allie DZUZ supplied in the kit (I understand they open up under stress and then you have a real battle to remove them), so bought steel ones from Aircraft Spruce via Placo. When fitted I noticed a slight movement due to the DZUZ tapering at the head, in flight this movement will lead to who knows what.... so I used Boet's idea of rivnuts for the 6 cowling to fuselage fittings.
Here I fitted the rivnut where the spring normally lives.
Then I made spacers that thread onto the button head bolt. The spacers are the same size as the holes I had drilled for the DZUZ. Nylon washers protect the paintwork.. I painted the inside of the hex head different colours to ID the different length spacers.
And here you can see them fitted, works nice !
So now I hav a Sav with wings, doors and cowling. Last biggie is the cabin roof etc, then get some registration numbers painted with a design not yet finalised.....
Cheers ian

No comments, but see quite a few views, so here's an update for you 'silent viewers' ....
The fuel tank needs to be sealed to stop spillage into the wing and down the the door window creating damage to the Lexan.
Then I decided that the 'prettiness' needs to be painted on as the surface is full of pop rivets, so I had stencils made and sprayed the design on - after the fact I've decided if I build another one the design and reg will DEFINITELY be stickers !
Anyway here the stencil is stuck on
My good friend John did a great job with masking everything...
Then the spraying starts....
The colour called 'Paris police blue' - chosen by the boss...
So this is what it looks like before the stencils are removed... will have to be next weekend's work
Cheers ian
