Tonight I am oficially on holiday. I plan on using my free time to seriously start putting my big toy together. So tonight the rudder cables and the cockpit floor and the luggage compartment floor went in. As there are no plans available for this aircraft, the assembly sequence is in my head ONLY. So I have to haul arse before someone else get stuck with a king size jigsaw puzzle without a picture! The frame has been painted end of last year already. Tomorrow friends comes to visit. .........buggers can`t sit idle and do buggerall. They will have to help!!

Mooi so Oom steek hulle in die werk

This is a horrible question to ask after all that work. Do you think it would have been better to have replaced some of the worn bits rather than stripping it down and recovering the plane?

The aircraft was covered for more than 20 years. The fabric was still OK, but the paintwork was starting to look a bit tatty, and the wooden stringers tarted warping seriously, and the belly started looking really nervous. How do u replace that? Out with the knife! Glad to report that not a single pipe had a crack in it, neither was there any rust. Besides, I have had a bit more practice with fabric covering, so the job will hopefully come out a lot better and neater. I have replaced all those warpy pesky wooden stringers with aly ones. The lines are now really beautiful, and will stay that way. I am not doing any structural changes on this aircraft, it has been flying trouble free from 1988 to 2012. Do not fix it if it is not broken. Progress has been steady over the last few days. The frame is now nearly ready for covering. The Luggage box has been covered already, and has a neater appearance and will be a lot lighter. (The old one was made of "bokseil", and was heavy and cumbersome. I have decided to cover the inide side panels of the cocpit with fabric, instead of using the old vinyl covered plywood ones. The plywood is really vrot, and heavy. I have taken some nice pics, but stil have to figure out how to make `em smaller on this new PC. Then I will start putting in pics.

Seems you have the same plans for your leave as I do.

I'd love to see pics of what you have been up to.
To shrink the pics in size, simply try to attach them to an email. It will give you the option of making them smaller in size. Once attached to the mail, simply re-save them elsewhere on your computer and upload them here.

Het Oom nog nie daai kompaater uitgesort nie ons wil sien wat daar aangaan

Uiteindelik het my twee resident computor goeroes my probleem uitgesort! Ek wil die Turbi ligter maak. Die bagasie ruim sye is nou ook fabric, pleks van swaar bokseil. Die hout stringers is vervang met aly, die sy panele van die kajuit het ook nou fabric, in plek van swaar plywood wat met kunsleer oorgetrek was. Ek wil probeer om soveel as moontlik van die errie se oorspronklike karakter te behou. Hy het moerse lekker gevlieg, soos hy was.

Boet, kan nie wag om die eind resultate te sien nie. Watse materiaal, dope ens. gebruik jy om oor te trek, en waarmee verf jy want die vliegtuie wat jy klaarmaak lyk fantasties. Ek het al vliegtuie gesien wat lyk of hulle regtig met bokseil oorgetrek is.
