Thought I would start a thread on my new KR project. I build a KR1 and then a KR2 in the mid 90's. I sold both (to go sailing around the world) but bought the KR2 back a few years ago. It stood for almost 10 years in a container and when I finally unpacked it I was shocked to discover that the container leaked and wood-rot got to the spars and most of the wood work. After a lot of thought I finally decided that a fix would be a rebuild so the decision was made to rather scrap the plane.
Since then I have been looking for a nice unfinished KR2 project, well, I found it!
Meet ZS-WWN!

A few detail photos.

This KR2 has fixed tail dragger landing gear, my original had retracts, this is much more robust.

Look at that nice wing root fairing!
Still lots of work to do but all the major construction is done. My original KR2 was build with fiberglass over foam, lots and lots of sanding! This one has pre-molded cowling, front top deck, turtle deck, wing skins, wing tips, root and fin fairings, this all add up to a much smoother finish than I could get with all the sanding!
I need to decide on an engine, the plan was to put a 3300A 120hp Jabiru engine in my original KR2 but that engine has since found a new home. Options are the nice 80hp Aerovee, a BMW, or maybe a Jabiru again? I like the idea of building the Aerovee myself but would have liked a bit more power.
Will post updates as work progresses!
Fly safe,
Rudi
