Hi Kallie,

On the ECU: As it was an Imported engine, the loom was part of the engine so we used the existing plugs and sensors to make our own loom to connect to the after market ecu. With additional relays and fuse boxes.
Engine Mounts: Pipe bending we did our self. Had welding done by Argon Arc coded welder and then had it heat stress re leaved by a specialist.
Belt Drive: Very good idea, but couldn't get the parts we needed. (At the time of investigation we decided that the Gates Poly Chain Carbon belt and pulley system was the best on the market, they realised we wanted to use it on a Microlite and refused us any further assistance as it is against their policy to allow any of their products to be used on any aircraft) :? :? ($$) ($$)

Cheers.

My Gearbox het toe uiteindelik gekom!

Net R25,00 posgeld !

Wat 'n Bargain !! R10 500,00 vhpy

Interesting Story

This Cobra was in an accident without leaving the ground.
It seems the pilot could not get it started while being seated.
He got out to look for any clues, tried again when it started at high revs.
Trike took off, at high speed, injured the pilot and went through a prefab wall with lots of damage.
Now, a year later, when we dismantled the craft we found that the choke and throttle was the wrong side around!
This could certainly have caused the accident!!!!!
Be Careful out there!
With some mulas later it now looks like this. Almost ready to fly.

Happy flying and safe landings.

(^^) (^^) (^^) (^^) Wat is die gear ratio? 50w80EP ratolie. Maak seker jou chouk sit oppie regte plek. Jaa, so n trike maak groot akkies as hy so weghol. Self het jare der jare gelede een gevang wat so "weggekom" het. maar die is n laaaang en interessante storie wat laans n braaivuur oor n koue vertel word.

Gearbox fitted, at last vhpy vhpy vhpy vhpy vhpy

Very simple design. Had it running for some 10 minutes before adding the Warpdrive 70" prop

and set at 10 Degrees for initial testing. Now the engine is working with lots of thrust!

Very low vibrations, slightly noisy as can be expected from straight cut gears with low running temps.

We'll do some minor fiddling before taking it to have the "dino" done.

After that: serious testing. Here is a picture after fitment. Not sure about the air filter yet.

Great Jaco!!

The gearbox looks very interesting - smaller than what I would have guessed.

I do not think that the dominant noise will be the gearbox, it is nearly always the propeller when you fly.

Keep up the good work!!

Nee donner... daardie "pancake-filter" laat die ding lyk soos 'n ou Ford Cortina

Have to agree with boet on maak seker hy is vas. Would look more the part if you did some tooling there and fitted an intake much to the likes of what the Turbo crazy guys fit. Would then be forward facing and you can fit a K&N performance filter!

ps I also just wanted to say something....

Agree with the filter, yo have done so much work, why not make a decent forward facing intake and benefit from a ram air scenario. Will be worth a good few Hp.

Dankie Boet vir die PM.

Ons het vandag die engine laat tune. Goeie resultate gekry. Start nou maklik, loop baie glad, effens ryk op lambda.

VVTi maak oop op 4200. Thrust = 195 kg @ 5400 rpm.

May the Horisontal testing begin !! vhpy
