This all feels so similar to the Smart Project of Peter Funk and the FK's.... I think the website is www.ecofly.de

What has happened to DieselFan's development?

I am also investigating the possibility of taking the 1000cc 3 cylinder engine, getting rid of all the pesky electronics, fit a carb and a small turbo??? Normal, output as it is now, 69hp, What will happen if we "blow" it a bit??. These engines a very light. vhpy

And this is what it looks like. The frogs beat us to it, but at least we can now learn from them!

There's no turbo on this one, so it's also then only 69hp? What is the efficiency of this motor with the belt drive? Do they have statistics on the performance? Just think: Moerlandspan's ToyoBaby....

There are a few 3 cyl 1000hp motors that have been converted for flight. The most common I believe is the Suzuki G10 motor. There is a turbo charged version of the G10 and also its big sister the G13. This website sells engines and redrive units, the prices are interesting and I'm sure there are questons to be raised, but most of the hard work in redesign and testing is done and in my experience that is where most of the money goes, especially when you don't get it right first time! The French were called frogs by English troops in the world war, when they learned that the French ate frogs, and according to folk law "you are what you eat" and therefore they were called frogs.

Ok now we are going sideways: The froggies call the English "ros Bif" after the traditional british meal, however when it comes to condoms; a "french letter" is reffered to as a "capon anglaise" (english overcoat) by the French who despise the English almost as much a certain race in SA, ja! ^ Now can we get back to the engines please?

Bonjour! Guten abend, good evening goeienaand.; Gentlemen, I belief ze topic under discussion was ze Yaris engine for ze aeroplanez, yes? I have contacted the frogs, and enquiered. No, they will not sell only a belt reduction unit. Then tried again: How about selling ONLY the kit to convert it? (Trying to take a short-cut. ) Lets see what comes up. vhpy

Not yet going, still in the back of the Venture. Stopped here, back from the Fairest half an hour ago. Got the engine out of the Citoen C1. Same engine, the Bosch electronic box has TOYOTA written all over it. I could switch the car on, and check the speedo, done only 37,000km. After some negotiations, got is for a super price. Engine, complete with wiring harnass, computor box and the transponder key. Oupa said to not bugger around with the engine, and fit unchanged. Just add belt drive, cooling and prop. We will see. I am not about to start shooting off my mouth about the virtues of an intallation that I know buggerall about. But then I will try to have it up, and flying ASAP. vhpy Will post some pics tomorrow.

We offloaded the engine straight onto a scale. 72.5 kg as it came out of the car. But there is a lot of "stuff" thatcan be removed to make it lighter. The rest of today was spent fitting the Animal`s Radial.....
