Bush Baby Serial 33 is finally complete
Bush Baby Serial 33 is finally complete and ready to fly after 15 years.
This Bush Baby has quite a history as it passed through a few owners over the years. After the original builder passed away it shifted from one owner to another and some tried to complete it but without success . When I took ownership it was not in an airworthy condition, although it had a current ATF, so I decided to recover and rebuild it.
I’ve just completed the weight/balance and have to repair a leaking fuel tank and then she will be ready for final inspection.

Yip, it still has the 582, I’m told it’s a brand new engine...
From the photo’s I can now see where all the wasp nests came from, I spent many hours digging out mud from just about every hole in the airframe

Yes it is a brand new engine, the engine was run in but before the plane was test flown the owner past away. The plane was build in Phalaborwa.
The wasp nests was there when we fecthed it from Petit. It was standing alone in a hanger with the master on fore many years(Hobbs)
Hope to see the plane in the air soon

Boet,
Unfortunately the tail wheel attachment horns where cut off on the rudder so I decided to route the tail wheel cables via Teflon tubing to the tail wheel. The set-up works quite smoothly and I haven’t had any problems yet, can you see a problem?
Cheers

Toemaar Boet, I had a chat to him and Monty will check it out. It just looks odd but the plan should be fine. The only danger as I told Carlton is that if the rudde return springs should break, the cables could end up looping around the handle. If everything else is done correctly this is not to likely to happen.
Safe flying

Re: Bush Baby Serial 33 is finally complete
Serial #33 took to the air for the first time on Sunday. She only did one circuit as conditions were not the best - 10-15knt crosswind but test pilot seemed to handle it well. He was also concerned about the high water temps which turned out to be a false alarm thankfully. Unfortunately when I parked it back in the hangar I noticed large amounts of fuel running out the left wing so had to drain the tank hastily to investigate, seems the fibreglass tank has been damage as it no longer holds pressure. This is one part of the BB I did not rebuild so I am kicking myself for this . Next step is to remove both tanks and get this sorted for the next flight.
