If you purchase a airframe like this what do you need to do complete it ,i presume the following are some of the items ;
entire firewall forward
all instruments and electronics
complete intrior
paint exterior if you want to
install brakes
other small jobs (that will take ages :!: :!: :!: )

are there any other mayor items I have missed
(have all control surfaces been conected , do you need to do load tests on the wings ? , )

And lastly how difficult is it to get past caa and all the red tape to get the plane flying

Has anyone completed a similar project - who will be able to answer

Mine is a complete rolling airframe - brakes, control surfaces (including trim tabs), all hooked up (but not tensioned).

TODO:
firewall forward (most work - especially the baffles and cowling)
interior, seats and seatbelts
instruments and electrics
exterior surface prep and painting
trimmings

ataltitude - if there is a similar type on the register with a type certificate then you don't have too much red tape. No need for load testing etc.etc. But if it's the first of a type on the register they will want tons of info from the factory before it gets registered here.
This type is well known so basically it should have had a build number when it was started - have had all it's AP inspections and signed of throught the build and then it's not a big issue.
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.

Give me a call if you are in the vicinity, and you can try and squeeze in. Could be interesting to check?

There are two Zodiacs in the US flying on 85hp Jabs. They do OK, but not nearly as well as the 912 powered planes. (I think James Bentley on this forum is also building one?)

I don't know of any 582 powered Ravens, but I am sure there must be some. With the prop that Carl uses, his VWs will make max 65hp, and they fly just fine. A 582 should work great, although you may need to extend the cowling to get the CG right!

Good luck with your project Justin! Keep us posted, especially with photos if you can. Carl makes a good product!
Best wishes

There is a Raven in Lamberts Bay with a Rotax 582 in it. Cruises 120mph. Does`nt take long to take off. No slouch in the climb either. Impressive!!!!!. vhpy

I have been sorely tempted... Carl also props his VWs at around 60hp, so they really do fly fine at 65hp (especially with such a low weight).

I have the speed wings though, so a little extra oomph is required.

Anyway, I haven't made much progress recently. Did a lot of ebay shopping, and have most of the instruments I require.

At the moment I am busy moving into a house, so I can bring the plane home and do some real work. Should be set up here in a week or two, and then get cracking!

(En dan gaan arme Boet suffer, want ek gaan vir hom die hele tyd bel vir advies  .)

Would the Raven be able to handle a Jab 3300 motor though?
