Every thing is moving at a slow pace but we are moving forward . Can't continue with the cowling waiting for my prop the backplate has an influence on the final position of the cowling. Meanwhile drilled all the holes for the boot cowl and that I can finish without the cowling. Last night the panel arrived and everything fits into place. At least I can now start on the electrical wiring so there is enough work to spend all my spare time on. Enclosed foto of the panel, this is the prototype and when all is done the final panel will be cut hopefully without mistakes. Vliegvark does all the CAD work and then the metal is either waterjet cut or lasarcut. On the panel the LASAR gives better Quality cut. Enclosed waterjet panel with Stratomaster Voyager

Enjoy the festive season

Flew to Plett in the Vansin with the not so silent partner had to leave behind the bosvark . The new prop arrived from the Chech Rep it is a Woodcomp 2 bladed variable pitch prop. I will test it on the BMW and report later on the smoothness resonance etc. Chose the 2blader because it is 4kgs lighter and 2bladers are more efficient. The test flying will tell . Have also ordered the ballistic chute. So nothing is stopping us now for the final stretch. It is hard going on holiday leaving behind the building project. Meanwhile all the little brackets and fittings have been waterjetted and all the files are on computer so if they fit well the process can be repeated. The prototype panel is being modified quite a bit because the pipes behind the panel and our equipment are claiming the same space. The pipes of the airframe are winning. The panel is coming 50mm out easier on the bi-focal distance and more space at the back. I have enclosed a picture of the Vansin . It was built by Carel van Aswegen in 1978. It is a one of design it flies as well as it looks with a average cruise speed of 135kts it carries 266lit of mogas and it has given me wonderful flying times we hope the Bosvark will follow in its footsteps.

Have a wonderful safe new year and remember safety in flying comes from "harnessing internal discipline" the rule book is only the guide.

Cheers Oupa-G

Hope you all had a great Christmas!

Oupa G - your Vansin looks absolutely beautiful xxx - Was there only one built? Please share some more detail on it?

Enjoy the rest and all the best with the rest of the bosvark build.

Andy Capp the Vansin is a one off in the whole wide world it was built by Carel van Aswegen in Plettenberg bay. First flew in 1978 . The original aircraft was bought by myself from Carel I saw the aircraft being built from scratch and always said if he stops flying I will buy the aircraft. I have done a lot of refinement on the original aeroplane this included moving the CoG forward by making the engine mount longer. I you see early foto's of the Vansin you can see the shorter nose.
I simplified the fuel system she carries 266L in four tanks. The engine is a Lycoming IO-320 THAT WAS turbo-normalized I have added the turbo. I regularly see 140kts true airspeed properly corrected for alt and temp. and that is at 3to 4000 feet. I have done several long trips with her that includes Botswana Namibia and I'm planning for Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar etc. The Bosvark will compliment this aircraft and vliegvark and Oupa-G will have to spin a coin who flies which one.

Vansin has done 1000plus uneventful hrs based on good owner maintenance and diligent checking a privilege we must appreciate and nourish in the NTCA category. Two years ago the engine was overhauled all the machining was done in house and where special tools were needed they were made. The Cape has lost people that can overhaul Lycoming cylinders. The valve guides were replaced with the latest High chrome guides , of course all valves replaced all the up to date mods on the oil pump etc. The web is the major source of information and the Lycoming site is excellent. The engine is running sweet and it was wonderful to see the condition of the engine that was last opened in 1965. So much for the 12 year rule that everybody was screaming about a few years ago. Of course all hoses were replaced and I cover every hose with a fireproof sleeve.
This is on the Bosvark site but the same diligent principles that apply to the Vansin apply to the Bosvark except the Bosvark will have better more modern redundency then the Vansin. The Bendix fuel system has only one fingerfilter if that blocks the engine stops even if it has two mags , in the Bosvark if the one filter blocks and you switch to the backup system you get new filters. Later years different thinking. The Bosvark runs at 4 bar reduced to a constent 3 bar so no vapour locks. Well suited for mogas. The Vansin runs well on Mogas but under low power settings she likes her aux fuel pump on.

So much garbage knowledge for the old year and in the new year we will work hard to get the Bosvark airborne.

Happy Healthy new Year

Cheers Papa-G
