Well done Larry,

Sorry to hear about the 450kg weight issue.

Is there anything you could do differently ,if you had to build another one, to get her into the mpl category?

Kind regards,

Beautiful. (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^)

PS
Fit smaller fuel tank, remove upholstery, spats and any other "items" to get weight below the 260/450kg....

Doubt very much if the actual weight could be brought down. Upholstery is very light, not more than 3 kg at the moment, spats etc are very light, I really dont see that I could shave more than about 5 kg, absolute max. Fuel tank is 60 l, plastic, so could maybe be made smaller, but would then sacrifice range. Better to fly on RPL, once in place.

So, doesnt look like anyone could legitimately get this through as mpl at the moment. But will keep trying. Just chatted to Andre Swanepoel, am trying various avenues.

Got RPM sorted out, showing 2890 static, should be fine!

RV ST, will pass your regards onto Bob! Will hopefully post some pics and info, of flying, after the weekend.

Mass and balance etc all done, empty weight of 282.2 kg, which is where the problem lies!!

Hi Larry,

If you used bathroo scales to do the weight and balance then you may have the wrong empty weigh.

Bathroom scales tend to over read by approx 12% at the upper limit.

If on the other hand you used calibrated scales from a friendly AMO well then not much you can do.

Hope this helps

Kind regards,

Use bathroom scales that can set backwards, by say 25kgs... Problem solved...

PS
Removing the extra's and smaller tank would just be for the granting of ATF, then replace with original equip as builder owner...   Not the right way to go about it, but nou ja...

Hey Larry, I caught up with old Grumpy Bob right now & he told me the wx picked up to 30kts this morning so the test flight was cancelled. He tells me you have done a sterling job with the build. I doubt whether you will be able to fly tomorrow, the wx is lousy. I wanted to fly from Grand Central to Tempe for the EAA event, but canned it because it was imc in jhb & the wx systems are not looking bloody marvelous for the next couple of days. I'm definitely coming down to 43 within the next few weeks & would like to meet you & see your baby.

Regards

Andre
