T he cracked process of bearing cap intrigued me and I did some further reading. The conrod is cast their is a lot of secrecy on the alloys, but the conrod is cast in one piece and then laser notched in a sine wave pattern and the a perpendicular load is placed on the bearing cap and the final crack is caused by a piezoelectric spike in the load and the cap cracks.

Just some useless information

Hi Oupa-G , yes this is off the norm , my brother is a motor-mac and he recently showed me an Opel Corsa engine which uses the same method on the big-end caps. I must say i was slightly "horrified" and surprised by this new and innovative engineering method

Saturday morning spent the morning putting back the Vansin's cowling took her for a test flight the OAT was 33C and the fuel flows were all back to normal. A small leak of air in the gascolator was the culprit of the fluctuating fuel flows. The lesson if something is out of the norm search till you find the problem.

Today I flew for RedX visual approaches at both Ct and George and it is sometimes nice to fly these planes VFR and also to hand fly them even if it is only the last part that is VFR.

I'm waiting for the new parts I have machined for the flywheel the photo's will follow. I enclose a picture of the Vansin she is now 33 years old original paintwork and flying like a dream she is a 140 kts machine with 7 hrs endurance. Thats all

Past weekend also rode my 1200GS fitted with EGT probes in the same position as the Bosvark.

I've been tuning between 750 and 780 C and those figures are similar on the bike, it is however very difficult to do 5800 rpm in 6th gear the traffic and the roads just do not allow those speeds. I will have to plan a trip maybe toe Loeriesfontein there are some nice roads with little traffic and no holiday foto camera's. I saw there have been 124800 visits to this site I'm actually quite amazed.

Vliegvark is in the queue before you. She flies as well as she looks.

Best description if heard so far. Hate those photo's that are taken when one doesn't expect it. ##

Oupa

My 1200GS revs 5500 at 160 km/h. Jip, it will be difficult to test performance in your area. A trip to Loeriesfontein could be the answer.

Ben that is where I want to read the EGT'S, that will be a realistic figure. I have a MGL twin EGT probe 50mm from flange to the probe that is also where I have them on the Bosvark.

I will report when I have the figures. Meanwhile I have been informed that my new flywheel weight and combined 60-2 gears are being cut during tonights shift. The relevant photo's will follow.

This weekend was to short and happened to quickly. On Saturday I flew the Vansin 2.5 hrs and the fuel injection is as new. I'm very glad to have found the little O-ring in the gascolator. The lesson is if you have an unexplained symptom search till you have found the problem.

I also did some needlework on the wing protector for my microlight wing this was still an aftermath from the door that was blown in. Vliegvark came home on Friday with the new 60-2 gear. It fitted perfectly and will now be machined to have the same rotating mass as the clutch of the bike. I have not weighed it but I will do this and report back. After the machining the new gear will go for balancing and then back into the Bosvark. I will also do this mod on my other running engines as well as the other BMW's running.

Late Saturday afternoon Vliegvark and I flew to north west of Malmesbury to a field Zandkloof to inspect a trike . Vliegvark was busy with his torch while I relaxed and was scanning to nicely maintained Trike. It is very lekker to inspect such nicely maintained flying machines. When you get the feeling that you would not mind flying the machine then you know things are right.

Cannot wait for the balanced flywheel
