does this mean to have two fuel flow sensors? One on the inlet and one on the return line?
Yes, In the Savannah 912S configuration this is how the fuel pressure (and air locks ?) is controlled. I know some 912S configs don't use return, but I dont know enough to comment why.. (Going on the 912 course next weekend so I'm sure I will be enlightened then)

So it took me a while to find a guage that does the maths to give actual. A lot of guys dont worry about the return as all you really want to know is a relative indication.. (any comments ?)

My return sensor will be installed somewhere as the return pipe goes into the wing.

I'm enjoying your postings Morph.. completely different build...

Hi Ian,

Your build is looking good!!

We did the 25 hour inspection on EJK this weekend. All is went well, but we had a look at SF054 the former that has a draft service bulletin out in the UK.

My Uncle is an AME (please no flames :) ) and we spent a bit of time looking at the mechanism. It seems that the forces on the control stops cause the former to deform and thus could lead too the cracks. (as well as possibly overspeed flaps).

We are looking at a mod to reinforce the former using angled ali attached at 45 degree angles from the reinforced sections to a position forward of the former.

I'll post some pics of the proposed change on the forum, when they are avail.

But other than the preventive maintenance, nothing else where found.

This is really a brilliant aerie !!!

Regards

Hi Falcon,

Thanks for the info. Yes strange that the only 2 are both British Savs fitted with Jab motors.... (which I think is a damm fine engine BTW)

Also I read that the one with cracks had the rivets inserted from the wrong side (head on thicker material).

Will be VERY interested to see the mod :!:

Are you hangared at Summit yet ?

Enjoy your flying... lucky bugger :D

Spent most of this month on the motor peripherals.

Oil cooler, oil tank, pipes complete

Water reticulation, radiator, etc done.
Decided to fit the Skykits carb heating system, weight of anti carb ice system > 1KG less than traditional hot/fresh box. Also takes some load off the pilot...

Fuel pipes in (the blue ones).

Exhaust manifold still to be wrapped and sprung..

Next is electrical, including EGT sensors etc...

10 days later and the motor is almost complete, a few odds and ends still to do.

Image

Not too happy with the CHT probes under the 2 rear cylinder's spark plugs. I've ordered 10mm thermocouples to mount under the VDO water temp sensors, then I'll check temp with both sensors and note the difference.

Wayne's man Mike at B&H Welding did a fine job in welding the EGT nipples onto the exhaust pipes.

Image

Made a nifty tool to get the exhaust springs in place, I was told pliers scratch the spring and it can break there later, this tool is nice and smooth where it connects to the spring.

Image

Made screened wire for the ignition shorting wires out of RG58 screening, should help with interference....

Image

Inside the cabin it's a different story, chaos reigns ! First bent the throttle rods for smooth operation.

Image

I decided to terminate instrument wires behind the panel to allow for easier removal of the panel later. Mr reliable John came up with these minature connectors that weigh 36gms each.

Now to tackle the rat's nest !

Looks good. I know the feeling having built ZU-ELO 100 hp Savannah for Willie Pieterse here in East London. Threw out the Savannah Instrument panel and fitted Dynon 100 and Dynon 120 Systems coupled to a 296 Garmin GPS. Flew straight and level from the word go. All leading edge slats nice and straight. Same with wings & flaperons. A good build needs lots & lots of cleco,s. Lots of panel space to fit a transponder and SL 40 garmin Radio. Check out the topic if not done so already on Avcom. Another Savannah been built in East London. Best of Luck with the rest of you build.
