On closer examination the damage is much bigger then meets the eye. there are cracks all over the one side and the whole one side wall will have to be rebuilt. But nobody was hurt and it is just inconvenience. Half my workshop will be out of action for a long while. I'll have to move my computer fax etc etc ISDN line and such troublesome detail. Hope to do some flying because I'm going to Pemba next week for a week. So it will again be quiet on this site. Just some photo's of a scene in a quiet suburb.

EEEEEEIIIISSSH, but those Hiluxes are tough!! This is bloody inconvenient. How does one lose control over one`s verhicle like THAT in a quiet, peacefull neighbourhood? Ok, so no-one was hurt, and Oupas workshop needed a bit of a "re-shuffle" anyway.

OG,

I am sure you are going to find tools you had forgotten you had!

Happy finding.
If it takes full power to taxi back to the hangar, you landed with the wheels up!

It is such an unpleasant task, but SOMEONE has to go do it. I just spoke to Oupa-G, and he told me the bad news. He is the one chosen to go to Sodwana on a diving expedition. Must be hard to swim about all day to look at the fantastic undewater world........ ## ## ## ##                            :( kan ek maar saamgaan, mooi `seblief Oupa???

Well oupa is on his way to Pemba. He did manage to do a flight this morning and asked me to post these photos. He is very happy with the engine and it runs very smoothly, even sound better than the previous one but maybe it is just our imagination...

Landed last night from Situ Island which is north of Pemba in northern Mozambique. Had a wonderful week scuba diving and looking at unspoilt coral reefs and tropical fish. I'm back in reality and will now in finish the last 20 hours of test flying on the Bosvark. Before I left she ran like a Swiss watch and Ystervark thank you for posting some pictures of the Bosvarkie away from home. I was sad to hear about the Sling's spin test results I spoke Mike Blyth this morning and it just shows how serious the test flying is. We will treat the remainder of the test flying with the respect it deserves.

I had withdrawal symptoms to much work and to much wind and a lack of wheels. The trusted Cruiser was sent to the panel-beaters to fit a new windscreen and to take out the odd scratches and bumps a car collects when it is used extensively, hence I'm short of wheels and have to share the car with the Madam. However I quickly went to the hangar and gave instructions to my mechanic Tinus to replace the master cylinders of the Vansin. I'm taking out the original American and replacing them with the locally made master cylinders. The ones on the Bosvark work so well that I want the Vansin to have the same equal feel. The old ones I had to pump before having solid brakes , not a desirable feature on a tail dragger. On top of it "local is lekker" . I hope the weather is going to play ball this weekend I would like to do a lot of flying, I really want to finish the 40 hrs.

This morning was a beautiful day. The engine in the Bosvark purrs. Today was a special day in that the mercury went to 39 degrees C and I flew the Bosvark. The temparatures were as follows

Oil Temp in Gearbox 54C
Oil in sump 87C
Oil at the inline of the Oil Cooler 105C remember this is the oil that comes directly from the exhaust valve oil cooling
Oil at the outline 85C so the oil cooler gives a 20 degrees drop under these very warm conditions. The oil temp thermostat only opens fully at 115 C. So there is more cooling capacity.
Cyl head temps 97C.

This engine runs cool and I'm very happy about this.
When one has worked hard on an engine conversion and the figures are starting to gel then all the work done in the last 6 years is worthwhile and falling into place. The engines did well in our trike's, but in the trike's they do not seem to work as hard as in a fixed wing cowled configuration. I'm happy to see the Yaris project has had an intravenous kick start . It is very important that the home-builder must have a choice in power plants. During today's flying I realized that my static source is not accurate at low speeds and I will have to do some experimenting. At a 100mph today the GPS was also reading 100mph in all the directions so in cruise I'm fine but low down in the 40's speeds are not so "lekker", but that we will solve. First went home to hot to be at an airport but will go out later this afternoon when it cools down a bit.

Hi Oom Frans, did you fit the new P prop?

Not yet I'm still waiting it is finished and I wanted to pick it up when I was in Jo'burg but the times between the flights made it not practical it is coming with couriers It is a 74X60 hope I'm not over propping but Piet assured me that he can make the blade cord narrower and then that will give less resistance. The other props of Piet I have flown are excellent, I will report as soon as I have test flown it. The tuning of prop and airframe and engine and then the tuning of the Eboxi is a fine art. So is the tuning of the static system.
